Summary: Works with ground personnel in the excavation and installation process of laying pipe on line and grade.Responsibilities:Support the Simon safety culture and other Company strategic initiativesSafely operates a large excavator.Ensures trench is excavated to the proper depth/grade with proper safety sloping or protection.Responsible for placement of water, storm & sanitary sewer pipe in the excavation.Ensures all work is conducted in a safe and responsible manner.Follows directions of ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement and grading.Ability to cut grade with minimal time spent on excavating to ensure production is on schedule.Knowledge of changes in soil conditions and materials that impact operations. Conducts trench work so that it meets OH requirements.Knowledge of proper rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc. and ensures safe work procedures are followed during lowering of materials into the excavation.Perform minor maintenance to excavation equipment; report problems or defects to mechanic for repair.Qualifications, Education, Skills and Experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred Two years plus of excavator operation for utility workValid drivers license with ability to maintain a clean driving history requiredAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manualsPhysical Requirements/Working Conditions:Wears and maintains personal protective equipment (PPE) as requiredRegularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistanceRegularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feelRegularly required to communicate (talk and hear)Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawlStanding/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrainRegularly required to work from a seated position operating equipment for long periodsFrequent exposure to loud noiseRegularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibrationRegularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particlesRegularly exposed to fuel, oil, and other chemicalsOccasionally exposed to working from high, precarious places and risk of electrical shockWorkplace Values RequirementsSupport, promote, and practice Simon core values, vision, and missionSupport, promote, and comply with Simon Code of Ethics, Workplace Conduct, Safety, and other established policies at all timesEmbrace the Companys safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teamsAlign personal vision and goals with larger goals of the CompanySupport continuous improvement to improve Simon processes, performance, safety, and overall successThe information contained herein is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of the job, nor are they intended to be an all-inclusive list of the skills and abilities required to do the job.
