The multimedia journalist and copywriter is a self-driven, creative content producer who inspires, informs, and engages families, students, staff, and the community through authentic and multiformat stories (including short- and long-form written narrative stories, podcast episodes, videos, and social), news, and marketing materials, maintaining brand and message continuity.

The multimedia journalist and copywriter is a proactive, independent communications expert who also effectively collaborates with team members (including designers, web developers, video producers, and others) and with other Central Office departments and schools.

You will also advise the district on communications strategies for a wide variety of short- and long-term projects.

You report to the Communications Coordinator.

Work Location Doyle-Communications Hours of work 8 a.m.- 6 p.m., hours may vary FTE/Hours Per Week 40 Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Produce content for a variety of formats including articles, e-newsletters, web copy, brochures, posters, reports, advertisements, PSAs, social media posts, video scripts, etc.
  • Research topics, coordinate and conduct interviews, and produce stories
  • Translate complex educational concepts into understandable language
  • Proofread and edit copy and manage the review and approval process for projects
  • Advise and guide central office departments and schools in the development and implementation of communication plans for district initiatives
  • Ensure cultural responsiveness in all communications and coordinate with language translators
  • Assist in the development, distribution, and maintenance of high-quality collateral
  • Assist in the coordination of exhibits and presentation materials for public events
  • Provide communications support and training to school leaders and staff
  • Establish benchmarks and measure impact of communications
  • Monitor public opinion to gauge district communications effectiveness
  • Prepare reports and serve on work teams as needed
  • Staff evening school board meetings, on occasion
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor?s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, business or related field
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a professional writer or editor
  • Superb writing and editorial skills
  • Experience writing for the web, social, and other media, and for diverse audiences on a variety of topics
  • Demonstrated ability to seamlessly adapt writing style for different purposes ? advertising copy, print pieces, journalism, PSAs, web copy, video scripts, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
  • Experience being part of a successful project team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality work within tight time constraints
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use good judgment and discretion
  • Proficient in the use of current technology required for the performance of duties, including social media, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with racially, culturally and linguistically diverse colleagues, clientele and external partners
  • Available to work evenings and weekends on an occasional basis
Desired Qualifications

Aptitude and interest are important in lieu of documented experience in the following areas:

  • A portfolio of high-quality, professional writing samples
  • Photo and video shooting and editing experience
  • Podcasting, audio recording, and editing experience
  • Social media strategy and implementation experience
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Cloud tools, including Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign
  • A keen sense of humor that translates well through writing, social, memes, gifs, etc.
  • Ability to work independently using good judgment, logic and reason
  • Experienced in market research methodology and data analysis
  • Experience using website content management systems and/or HTML
  • Experience with email marketing programs such as Constant Contact or Benchmark
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English
