Job Summary

Contribute to Sanford operations and processes while obtaining first hand experiences that align with the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
The IT Intern must possess the skills necessary for understanding written policies and procedures, project a positive attitude and good customer service skills, perform various functions under the supervision of the respective IT Director, Manager or Project Manager, and participate in the overall operations of the designated area of the department. The IT Intern must demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, the ability to learn and problem solve, a fundamental working knowledge of computers and utilize the technology necessary for performing the job. This individual will obtain the vision and values that are compatible with the organization.
Internship Responsibilities:
• Project 1 - Data warehouse improvements. With guidance from our Lead Interface Engineer, analyze current data warehouse objects in order to identify inefficiencies and potential points of failure, document those objects, and coordinate replacement of those objects.
• Project 2 - Historical application enhancement/rebuild. Review and document workflow requirements for existing database applications, design, and code replacement workflows using current technologies.
• Operational reporting assignments utilizing Microsoft SSRS.
• Data warehouse dataset extraction using Microsoft SSIS.
• Resolve issues with existing applications or processes as assigned through the Sanford issue tracking system (HEAT).
• Participate in design discussions and code reviews.
• Participate in weekly 1-on-1 mentor sessions.
• Participate in weekly DW team meetings.
• Participate in scheduled meetings as needed for project or group activities.
Intern Qualifications:
• Must be a Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or an immediate graduate having received one of these listed majors.
• Coursework or experience utilizing Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 or 2013
• Coursework or experience utilizing Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012, or 2014
• Must be able to commit to the hours scheduled during the 12-week internship. Work collaboratively with organization leadership, enhancing knowledge and skills and improving the delivery of quality healthcare. Assist in the completion of projects and administrative duties while developing skills related to the assigned function and/or location. Attend training and development opportunities, learning about various processes and functions within the organization.

Department Details

This position will be expected to work closely with the Health Plan Data warehouse / Interface team (DW team) within the Sanford Health Plan IT department to assist with their respective projects. The IT Intern is responsible for assisting the DW team staff in general duties of their respective team(s) but could also include responsibilities to meet certain guidelines of a college accredited internship program.

Qualifications

Current enrollment or recent graduate of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge of healthcare industry preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
