POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of associates, guests and assets of Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event Center, as well as deterring narcotics from entering onto the property.  The officer/handler will assume dual responsibility of functioning as a security guard when not caring out canine duties. The officer and the canine will work as a team, providing regular and on call inspection of the facility. In all interactions, the position is responsible for making STAR service to guests and fellow team members a first priority.

 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrols premises to provide a safe and secure environment for guest’s and associates of Shooting Star Casino, Hotel & Event Center.

  • Inspects patrol areas ensuring compliance of casino policies.
  • Informs supervisor of policy infractions.
  • Utilizes automated patrol devise to track patrol route.

 

Responds to emergency situations including medicals, severe weather, fire, theft, assaults, bomb threats, evacuations, physical and verbal conflicts, criminal activity and other Crisis Management situations to ensure the safety of all associates and guests.

  • Generates written reports on all incidents that require security officer’s presents.
  • Defuses conflicts through verbal communications
  • Reacts to crisis management situations by following written protocol.

 

Observes and assists hard count associates during coin and bill acceptor drop to ensure the safety of associates and guests while gaming funds are collected and transferred to designated areas.

  • Ensures that written procedures are followed at all time during the drop process.
  • Clears traffic in designated routes.
    • Initiates escorts by notifying Surveillance to insure the escorts are monitored, insures funds are secured before completing the transfer.
  • Documents and reports any deviations, pertaining to escort procedure to immediate supervisor.

 

Provides direction, information and assistance to guests and associates.

  • Provide direction to guests that inquire about a desired destination
  • Assist guests whenever possible to desired destination by walking them to their desired destination

 

Assists slot department personnel by verifying jackpots on slot machines and verifying slot machines that require fills, while at the same time verifying the proper paperwork is accurate and complete, by following pre- described procedures.

  • Verifies winning combination on slot machine is accurate.
  • Verifies that machine is in need of a fill.
  • Attests to the accuracy of the payout, prior to the guest receiving their winnings, by making sure the proper paperwork is accurate and complete.

 

Performs post duties at varies locations throughout the facility, checking guests to ensure they have the proper identification to enter the facility.

  • Ensures that guest have the proper identification to enter the facility.
  • Checks baggage when required at designated posts.
  • Provides guests with information about facility and events occurring.

 

Expedites fills and credits to and from the blackjack tables in various pits, verifying the accuracy of the amounts by observing the paperwork and ensuring the paperwork is complete.

  • Transfers chips to and from blackjack pits at the request of the pit boss.
  • Safeguards transfers throughout the process, ensuring the chips are placed on the table and paperwork is distributed to designated locations.

 

Responds to emergency and access alarms to ensure guests, associates and property are safe and secure.

  • Notifies Surveillance of alarms and responds to location to ensure safety of associates, guests and assets.
  • Adheres to written procedures regarding appropriate response based on alarms priorities.
  • Notifies outside agencies for assistance at the direction of immediate supervisor, if required.
  • Follows written procedures while performing access and alarm duties at all times.

Performs canine specific job functions ensuring safety of guests and associates while on Shooting Star property

  • Conducts random narcotic inspections
  • Respond to calls involving building searches and property searches for drug activity
  • May be called in while off duty to respond to calls requiring canine
  • Present public canine demonstrations within the community
  • Testify in court as requested

 

Is responsible for training, housing and proper health care of dog

  • Comply with departmental policies relative to on-going in-service training necessary to maintain stated proficiency levels of the dog and handler.
  • Maintain training levels necessary to obtain and continued USPCA certifications and guidelines required of narcotic canines
  • Provide housing and care for dog at handlers residence
  • Provide for health, care and well being of the animal assigned to him/her, including daily feeding, grooming and procuring the services of a veterinarian when necessary.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or a minimum of one year related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Certificates, Licenses & Designations

  • Must posses a valid driver’s license
  • Must meet licensing requirements as prescribed by the Tribal-State Compact for gaming.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain recognized narcotic certifications for canine and handler
  • Ability to obtain/maintain narcotic training license

  • *Shift differential of additional $1.25/hr for swing and night shift and an additional weekend differential of $1.25/hr. Requirements based on position. Available for hours worked after a team member completes their 90-day probationary time frame.
