We are looking for talented individuals to work as registered nurses in a challenging and unique setting. Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) specializes in serving male and female children, adolescents and adults with complex psychiatric conditions that are often combined with challenging behaviors. WMHI provides care in a secure setting, meeting the legal, behavioral, treatment and recovery needs of mental health patients. As a registered nurse, you will be utilizing the nursing process in the provision of routine and complex patient care in both a clinic and skilled care unit settings.**New graduates are encouraged to apply.A _$2,000_ sign-on bonus will be available to employees new to state service or have not held a position with the State of Wisconsin in the last five years. **New nurses are provided one-to-one orientation designed by a nurse preceptor that meets individual learning needs. An opportunity to work side-by-side with experienced nurses is also provided. WMHI does accept the Nursing Temporary Permit license offered through the Department of Safety & Professional Services.Nurses at WMHI are respected and valued for their knowledge, skill and contribution to the mission of WMHI.State of Wisconsin benefitsinclude at least 3.5 weeks of vacation, 9 paid holidays, ample sick time, a top rated health plan, multiple low cost insurance options and an exceptional retirement plan.**Position Summary:** Our nursing duties include, but are not limited to:* Registered nurses use the nursing process to deliver basic and complex nursing care to assigned patients and are accountable for their own professional practice.* Completes daily nursing assessments, responds to medical emergencies, and administers medications.* Shares responsibilities with the Nurse Manger/Nursing Supervisor to ensure nursing meets standards of care, practice, performance, and policies and procedures are adhered to by all nursing staff. Accountable for the nursing care provided and assumes responsibility of supervision of nursing staff and delegated functions.* Assumes leadership role in crisis management and assures that patient health and safety needs are met.* Assesses and provides individualized patient education as it relates to the patient's self-care needs.* Collaborates with the multidisciplinary and medical teams in treatment program/plan development. Develops specific nursing interventions which are congruent with the treatment needs identified in the individualized treatment plan and unit mission statement, and promotes a professional role for nursing within the team. Participates in nursing and /or institute committees as needed or assigned.**Special Notes:**Due to the nature of these positions, all applicants will be required to allow the Department of Health Services to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.**Please be advised that the first seven weeks of employment consist of orientation, and no time off will be approved during this time. Additionally, vacation requested for time after orientation is granted based on operational needs.
