Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Details:   $120,000 to $140,000 per year DOE, full-time, benefited, exempt
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, long term care insurance, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.  
Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional travel is required, along with occasional after hours work.

The EERC is looking for an experienced, energetic, and imaginative senior engineer/scientist to join our multidisciplinary team and contribute to the success of the EERC and its clients as we pursue problem solving related to advanced challenges in advanced power generation and chemical processes. The selected candidate will perform most if not all of the following functions:

  • Evaluate fuel conversion and other chemical processes.
  • Develop innovative, basic and applied research concepts.
  • Address materials issues in a broad sense relative to energy and chemical processes.
  • Use software packages to predict the fate of materials in thermal and chemical systems, mentor junior staff, constructively work with other groups at the center.
  • Suggest, assist with, and prepare proposals to potential clients, manage client tasks and projects, and develop client relationships.
  • Report results to clients, prepare and present project results at national/international conferences, and prepare and submit journal articles when and where appropriate.

Required Competencies:

Minimum Requirements:
 

  • Master’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or related scientific field with a materials emphasis.
  • Experience involving materials development, manufacturing, and/or application.
  • Experience with software packages that predict function/fate of materials/composites in advanced energy and/or process systems.
  • Applicants may be required to deliver a presentation to interviewers during the interview.
  • Cover letter and resume or curriculum vitae.
  • Not required by the EERC, however, some clients will require drug screenings.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history background check.

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • PhD degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or related scientific field with a materials emphasis.
  • 15 years of experience involving materials development, manufacturing, and/or application.
  • Experience with application of alloy and/or nonmetallic materials in energy production and/or chemical processes.
  • Experience with commercial scale advanced materials applications.
  • Experience designing or interpreting field or lab experiments for advanced material applications.
  • Experience working with industry in the field of materials development/applications.
  • Demonstrated technical writing ability, such as author or coauthor of published peer-reviewed articles or technical papers. Must Provide Examples.
