Position Description:
The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering ( ABEN ) at North Dakota State University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in bioprocess engineering in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources ( CAFSNR ). While this position resides in the CAFSNR , it is affiliated with the College of Engineering through academics. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally-funded, nationally-recognized research program in her or his specific area of interest under the broad topic of bioprocess engineering. Potential research focus include, but are not limited to renewable materials, biobased product quality assessment, biomaterials handling, and value-added processing for northern plains crops.

Bioprocess engineering laboratory space and equipment are available for research and as a NDSU recharge center working with local industry or commodity groups. The successful candidate will be expected to establish collaborative research partnerships with other NDSU academic units. Other potential collaborating partners include the Northern Crops Institute (http://www.northern-crops.com) and local or regional industries. The successful candidate will publish research findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, transfer promising technologies to industry and entrepreneurs, provide information on processing to industry and the public, and serve the department, college, university, and profession as appropriate.

The successful candidate will also be expected to teach courses related to bioprocess engineering, develop laboratory equipment, and instrumentation for teaching the practical applications of the theories and principles in bioprocess engineering. Specific teaching responsibilities include courses on Biological Materials Processing, Process Engineering for Food, Biofuels and Bioproducts, and Bioprocess Engineering. The individual is also expected to participate in curricular planning and advise undergraduate and graduate students in department programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in agricultural engineering or a related field with at least one degree in an engineering discipline
• Interest and ability to develop a nationally-recognized, externally-funded research program
• Interest and ability to develop a high-quality teaching program.
• Interest and ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students
• Ability to work independently and collegially as a multidisciplinary team member
• Ability to communicate effectively including excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of colleagues and students

Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated record of scholarship, including experience in conducting bioprocess engineering research and publishing research findings
• Demonstrated teaching experience, especially at a university
• Demonstrated expertise in processing for Northern Plains crops
• Experience preparing successful competitive research proposals
• Industry experience
• Ability to obtain a PE license in the near future
• Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing teams or supervising technical support staff
• Demonstrated ability to create a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students, faculty, and staff
