Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $61,600+/Annual, Full-time, Benefited, Exempt
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.
Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm; occasional work outside of regular hours (particularly with regard to conference, training, and recruitment responsibilities).

The University of North Dakota School of Law seeks (1) to educate students for professional service in the law and law-related professions, (2) to explore legal issues of special significance to North Dakota and the region, (3) to attract a well-qualified and diverse student body and to assist students in making career decisions, (4) to promote improvements in the law and legal systems, the legal profession, and the administration of justice, and (5) to further the overall goals and objectives of the University of North Dakota.
The Tribal Judicial Institute is a grant-funded training and technical assistance provider operating within the School of Law. The Institute provides legal education, training and technical assistance on the topics of tribal justice systems, tribal judiciary, federal Indian law and tribal law.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Providing project coordination and administrative support to the Tribal Judicial Institute under grant-funded projects:
 

  • Basic reception duties such as answering phones, responding to email inquiries and responding to in person inquiries.
  • General office duties such as File Management, mailing, faxing, duplicating and supply maintenance. Updates to internal operating process as needed.
  • Project coordination duties to include:
    • Participating and coordinating in conference calls with project partners, federal funding agencies and tribal grantees.  Duties to include:
      • communicating and setting up conference call lines
      • disseminating call or meeting agendas
    • Developing content and coordinating delivery of webinars associated with grant funded projects;
    • Developing content for publications associated with grant funded projects;
    • Provide Logistical Support such as Conference and event planning.  Duties would include:
      • securing event center bids and contracts,
      • coordinating event registration,
      • travel for on-site registration at conference and training events,
      • coordinating event curriculum materials,
      • developing speaker contracts,
      • developing event evaluation forms and sign in sheets,
      • shipping materials and AV to and from conferences or training events,
      • coordinating faculty travel
    • Coordinate and conduct on-site technical assistance with grantee tribes
    • Assist with development of federal grant reports


Recruiting of prospective American Indian and Alaska native law students on behalf of the University of North Dakota School of Law:
 

  • Conducting visits to tribal community colleges, campuses with Native American student organizations or other forums that offer opportunities for the recruitment of prospective American Indian and Alaska Native Students;
  • Working with Law School Staff to develop informational and marketing materials for dissemination at events;
  • Public Speaking to audiences of prospective students will be required.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: 
 

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • 2-3 years of experience providing administrative support
  • Minimum of two years of recent legal work experience (may include judicial clerkships) in a tribal justice system
  • Experience working with or for American Indian tribes or Alaska Native Villages
  • Valid drivers license
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check.

Preferred Skills/Desirable Qualifications:
 

  • Experience in PeopleSoft & Perceptive Content
  • Experience in event planning and logistics
  • Experience of federal grants, reporting and related guidelines is a plus
