Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $26,500 Annual, Full Time, Benefited, Non-Exempt
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, long term care insurance, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.  
Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm; summer hours may vary. Subject to call-backs 24/7.

A Painter Apprentice provides painting, patching, and drywall, wallpaper, and other wall covering services to various departments on the University of North Dakota campus as trained and directed by the Journeyman Painter.
 

  • Patch plaster walls using proper equipment and techniques.
  • Prepare and paint various surfaces using the proper brushes, rollers, and/or spray equipment.
  • Assist taping of all new sheetrock walls using proper equipment and procedures.
  • Assist in set-up of scaffolding, set up jobs, surface preparation and site and equipment clean up.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Competencies:
 

  • Willing to learn at an accelerated rate the application of paints, primers, thinners, and other various finishes including painting, patching, and drywall on ceilings, walls, and on occasion floors.
  • Must be able to use brushes, rollers, putty knives, banjo, hand sanders, hand trowels, air spray equipment, airless spray equipment, negative air machines, texture machines, small hand tools, and scaffolding.
  • Must be able to withstand long periods of lifting, pulling, tugging, climbing, kneeling, working with hands overhead, without restrictions.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs occasionally
  • Must be able to work in buildings containing asbestos materials.
  • Must be able to work in areas containing mold to remediate using mold safe practices.
  • Must be able to understand, speak, read and write English well enough to perform the functions of the position; including reading and communicating in regards to work orders, safety instructions

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Employment offers are conditional based upon testing and ability to wear a full-face respirator.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal history background check

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Basic desktop computer experience
  • Experience with materials, equipment and methods used in painting processes
