MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation or equivalent, plus two years college coursework in the equine field and two years work experience in relevant field. Final job offer contingent upon complete background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in equine science or the equine industry; two or more years of college coursework in an equine or related field; experience with equine academic lab management and coordination; maintenance and record keeping on lab/farm animal equipment; IACUC and laboratory compliance procedures experience; well-developed organizational and time management skills; excellent interpersonal relations, communication and motivational skills; demonstrated ability to foster a positive learning environment for students; experience keeping accurate laboratory records; and ability to read, write, and understand English.

About the Job
POSITION: 100% full time, 9-month appointment position at $15.90 starting October 28th, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter. Hours of work will vary, but will generally be 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. This position supervises the servicing of teaching laboratories and spaces by providing and maintaining adequate materials, maintenance, supplies, and equipment for use in laboratory instruction of the Equine Science programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position supervises the servicing of teaching laboratories and spaces by providing and maintaining adequate materials, maintenance, supplies, and equipment for use in laboratory instruction of the Equine Science programs.

* Assist instructors in lab and riding courses to monitor student safety and assist in set up and take down of class lab equipment. Order, maintain, clean, assign, and inventory all bridles, saddles, and training equipment. Maintain and order all lab equipment and associated medication. Maintain equipment used for equine science courses such as driving carts, harnesses, jumps, trail obstacles, round pen, etc.
* Coordinate lease horse program and sales of horses. Assist in budgeting for equipment and boarding horses.
* Assist in equine reproduction labs with foaling duties, setting up labs, student foal watch, coordinating foaling mares and stallions.
* Coordinate and oversee weanlings for Horse Production project, assist students in and outside of class under instructor supervision. Recruit and haul local horses for farrier science lab. Assist faculty for judging contests, equine exploration days, camps, and clinics during the school year.
* Maintain arena footing, arena and stadium cleanliness, and work with facilities personnel for maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of lab spaces. Maintain trucks, trailers, tractors, and other equipment used for program and laboratory needs.
* Assist with veterinarian, farrier, hay, shavings, and deliveries as needed in absence of farm staff. Assist faculty with recruiting efforts and attending events for equine recruiting. Assist with equestrian teams as needed. Weekend work and travel for events and recruiting may be occasionally required.
* Maintain IACUC required trainings and record keeping, including SOPs and protocols, and other duties as assigned by the Department Head.
