As the multi-specialty group practice for the faculty of the University of Minnesota Medical School, University of Minnesota Physicians has more than 950 physicians and 1,600 health professionals, providing clinical care in over 100 specialty and sub-specialty areas. The Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition is seeking a full time board certified or board eligible Gastroenterologist at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank on an academic or master Clinician track (track to be determined by qualifications and interest).

About the Appointment:

  • Our current strengths include microbiome science, inflammatory bowel disease, and use of artificial intelligence in endoscopy. We are expanding our work in functional GI diseases, motility and neurogastroenterology.
  • The ideal candidate will have excellent skills in general gastroenterology and a focused clinical interest in one of these areas: Functional GI diseases, Motility and Neurogastroenterology
  • It is expected that an applicant will have completed their training with a strong record of clinical service, research and teaching.
  • In addition, the candidate is expected to have demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines, engaged in national GI professional societies and publication records to portend strong academic potential.
  • We are a forward-looking division, which embraces the roles of Nutrition and GI Health Psychology in providing care for our patients as well as developing research programs in these aspects of gastroenterology practice. We believe in team science and collaboration with basic researchers across our large University.

The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology offers:

  • Academic tertiary care with established fellowships in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, as well as an advanced Endoscopy fellowship and a Hepatology fellowship.

About the Division:

The Division plays a leading and integral role in Hepatology and liver transplantation, hosting one of the longest standing liver transplant programs in the United States. The Division is home to a nationally-recognized division for ERCP, EUS, and management of complex pancreas/biliary disorders. Historically, the Division has made a number of seminal contributions in the fields of hepatology and nutrition, and generates important knowledge in our understanding of liver metabolism. More recently, the Division has contributed to the understanding of the role of pancreaticobiliary endoscopy in the management of a number of clinical conditions, including malignant hilar biliary obstruction, complications of ERCP, endoscopic therapy of pancreatic diseases, and of sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. The Division continues to maintain highest ambitions for excellence in all three of its major missions: patient services, teaching, and research.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited ACGME Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship training program.
  • Board eligible/certified in Gastroenterology
  • Licensed or ability to obtain Minnesota Board of Medical Practice Licensure.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain DEA certification in the State of Minnesota
  • Meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges
  • Ability to receive work authorization in the United States from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and maintain legal status according to the requirements of VISA category while in the United States.
