Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Details:  Commensurate with experience, full-time, benefited, exempt
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.  
Work Schedule:   Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.  Occasional travel may be required, along with the possibility of occasional nonstandard work hours.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity at the University of North Dakota for an energetic and innovative individual to fill a newly created position that will lead financial and business matters and direct financial operations including budgeting, accounting and support for external grant funding.

The College of Arts & Sciences is the largest of the 9 academic colleges at UND. The function of the College is to provide both a professional and liberal education to its undergraduate and graduate students. The College’s overall goal for all students is intellectual growth through study in the liberal arts (including the natural sciences and mathematics, the humanities, the social sciences and the fine arts). The College offers programs leading to the B.S. or B.A. degrees in liberal arts disciplines as well as Master’s and Doctorates many of those areas. The College supports scholarly and creative activity for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students.   Arts & Sciences is comprised of 18 departments plus additional special programs and clinics. The College oversees more than 160 full-time faculty, about 75 part-time faculty/lecturers, 50 support staff, 500 graduate students and more than 3,700 undergraduate students.
 

  • The CFO will be responsible for strengthening business and financial planning in alignment with the College’s and University’s strategic goals.
  • The individual in this position will provide leadership, oversight and stewardship for all aspects of financial resources while promoting best practices involving finance administration within the College.
  • Reporting to the College Dean and with secondary reporting to the University’s Associate VP for Finance, the CFO will work collaboratively with College leadership to provide strategic advice and recommend strategies to implement financial and administrative objectives, policies, programs, and practices that ensure a sound financial structure for the College.
  • The CFO will keep the Dean informed about the College’s current financial position and works creatively to help sustain an environment of excellence through collaboration and innovation.
  • In carrying out these responsibilities, the CFO will be expected to continuously evaluate short- and long-term strategic financial objectives; produce forecasts and model strategic choices and alternatives; advise on the financial implications of business activities, the costs of strategic priorities, and options for funding strategies that will provide for the realization of the College’s growth.
  • The CFO has responsibility for all reporting and compliance related to fiscal activity and will suggest and lead efficiencies for managing financial processes throughout the College of Arts & Sciences

Minimum Requirements:
 
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or business-related field
  • CPA or MBA
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including significant advanced knowledge of data analysis functions of Excel, including pivot tables, what-if scenarios, etc., with ability generate a management summary of data
  • Experience with Responsibility Centered Management (RCM)
  • Successful completion of criminal history records background check

Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Financial planning experience in higher education
  • Experience working with Peoplesoft finance
  • North Dakota or other Public Institution University System experience
  • Experience using PowerBI
