    Concordia University is seeking applicants for the, full-time, position of Assistant Director Industry Relations located on the Mequon Campus. The Assistant Director reports to the Director Center for Academic Advising and Career Engagement and is housed within Student Enrollment and Engagement. This position requires a normal eight-hour workday; however, as a salaried position; the Assistant Director will need to work extended hours, including some weekend and evening events, to meet the demands of the job.

    The Assistant Director of Industry Relations will be responsible for internships and experiential opportunities connected to the full range of our academic programs. This work will include managing data regarding existing internships within the Handshake software system and developing new internship opportunities within the community that are aligned with each academic school and program, and, eventually, each delivery modality. This position encompasses three distinct areas of responsibility: career, internship, and experiential learning development and coordination, Handshake software management, and on-campus recruitment. To accomplish this work, the Assistant Director will collaborate with existing placement staff within many of CUWAA's academic programs, the Career Engagement and Industry Relations staff at CUAA, as well as the Community Outreach and Veterans Engagement department.

    Strategic

  • Demonstrate a proficient and growing level of knowledge and understanding regarding best practices in career, internship, and experiential learning development and ensure practices within the CAACE and CU, at large, are in alignment with such
  • Partner with Admissions to develop innovative strategies for engaging new students in career development prior to arriving on campus
  • Collaborate with Community Outreach and Veterans Engagement to follow up on initial meetings conducted by that team in order to demonstrate the CUWAA value added of student internship development
  • Collaborate with Career Engagement and Industry Relations at CUAA to expand industry contacts and deploy parallel practices
  • Create a network of relationships with students, faculty, alumni, and staff across the campus and community that effectively supports the delivery and expansion of student internship opportunities
  • Coordinate the use of MBTI and other career inventories to assess students interests, aptitudes, and abilities and assist in the academic and career goal setting processes
  • Career, Internship, & Experiential Learning Development and Coordinator

  • Develop, organize, and support a comprehensive training program for students and employers regarding student internships as outlined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE)
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and administration to create policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of internships
  • Recruit new employers and increase available internship sites through outreach, networking, and faculty and alumni contacts
  • Conduct site visits to evaluate appropriateness and relevance of internships for students
  • Conduct site visits to include campus, local, and regional employers to maintain relations as well as further explain experiential learning opportunities, promoting out of the classroom experience to students' academic studies and career direction
  • Participate in area business, not-for-profit associations, and chamber of commerce activities with emphasis on relation development
  • Develop, organize, and maintain the career, internship, and experiential learning campus resources and ensure availability to students and alumni
  • Hire, orient, and supervise the work of Career Ambassadors
  • Work with faculty and CAACE staff to identify and promote internships
  • On-Campus Recruitment

  • Design, implement, and administer recruitment programs for a diverse group of companies and organizations as well as graduate schools
  • Administer the on-campus recruiting program and calendar
  • Visit employers to promote students
  • Market all career events for on-campus recruitment
  • Coordinate and lead presentations, within and external of the classroom, relating to career internships
  • Manage Career Development programming, including but not limited to Backpack to Briefcase, Etiquette Dinner, Employer Focus Sessions, and Employer Spotlights
  • Handshake Management

  • Manage Handshake as the campus lead
  • Connect students with employers through the Handshake platform
  • Maintain a high standard of conscientious, courteous, enthusiastic, and professional service

  • Education

    Bachelor's degree required, Master's Preferred. Two years of experience in a business or career office setting preferred. Skill in experiential learning development preferred. Experience and certification to administer and interpret career inventories preferred.

    Compensation and Benefits

    This is a full-time position. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, education, and experience.
