Hiring Department:  UND Aerospace - Flight Operations

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $60,000+/year, full time, benefited, exempt

The UAS Lead Flight Instructor will assist the UAS Chief Pilot with the development of the UAS undergraduate flight course curriculum. The position will also conduct student flight/ground instruction and evaluation.
 

  • UAS Flight Instructor
    • Conduct ground and FTD instruction.
    • Follow prescribed curriculum.
    • Maintain student records.
    • Monitor and evaluate student checks.
    • Maintain superior training standards.
  • UAS Operations Liaison
    • Between management and instructor/students.
    • With FAA, ATC, and other schools.
    • Coordinate ground academics and flight training within JDOSAS.
    • Between management and academic instructors
  • Course Management/Development
    • Certify flight records.
    • Standardize instructors.
    • Assist with development of undergraduate course curriculum.
    • Develop and incorporate instructional aids
  • Administrations, Management and Supervision
    • Develop, monitor, and maintain policies and procedures.
    • Maintain flight points.
    • Maintain adequate amount of contact time.
    • Recommend improvements for training and safety.
    • Assume chief pilot responsibilities in their absence.

Required Qualifications
 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation/UAS.
  • Experience with Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Operating software. 
  • Remote Pilot Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent UAS Training.
  • Experience in analyzing and defining software system requirements for training.
  • Instructional experience in small fixed wing UAS platforms.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.


In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. 


Preferred Qualifications
 

  • Experience with Scan Eagle training course outlines and computer systems at UND Aerospace.
  • Instructional experience with the Boeing/INSITU SCAN Eagle Software-in-the-loop (SSIL) UAS Simulator.
  • Experience flying and instruction Boeing/INSITU SCAN Eagle.
  • Experience with DJI and Parrot Platforms in flying and instruction.
  • Instructional or practical flight experience with MQ platform simulators and aircraft.
  • Experience with Student Training records systems.
  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) & Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) desirable.
  • Commercial Pilot with Instrument Rating Desirable.
