Overview

This position has responsibility for management, oversight and coordination of undergraduate and graduate clinical education activities at Fairview Health Services System and works under the direction of the Chief Academic Officer (CAO).

Responsibilities

This role requires a keen understanding of academic hospital and outpatient clinic management, state licensing regulations, learner credentialing, visa regulations, hospital affiliations & agreements, ACGME accreditation requirements, federal and state requirements for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement including required documentation, and development and implementation of medical education policies system-wide. It also involves supervision and mentoring of education coordinators.

This position:

  • Partners with Chief Academic Officer in development and implementation of short-term and long-term education strategic plans.
  • Partners with service line leaders to determine learner capacity needs, including allocation of FTEs and ways to enhance clinical learning environment for both learners and preceptors.
  • Develops and implements short & long term strategic plans for clinical learners within the system.
  • Coordinates required trainee learnings across clinical training sites.
  • Liaisons with schools in curriculum assessment, program development, affiliation agreements and partner relationships.
  • Provides oversight of affiliation agreements, data collection/reporting, and compliance (shared with education coordinators) and regulatory, in collaboration with Government reimbursement.
  • Leads weekly education huddle calls and liaisons with clinical sites (shared with education coordinators)
  • Oversees education capacity assessment and site development.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission (TJC) standards on graduate medical education and provides documentation needed for TJC site visits.
  • Participate and assist in ACGME CLER site visits for UMN and Fairview sponsored programs
    In collaboration with CAO, develops and reports on outcome assessment and evaluations.
  • Develops clinical education policies and SOPs for learner sites.
  • Manages trainee and education workflow across the system through clinical reporting and clinical assessment integration.
  • Communicates with Fairview audit staff and provides requested information during annual reconciliation process.
  • Advises residency and fellowship program directors on policy and procedural matters; act as liaison between the residency programs and affiliated hospitals' administrations regarding personnel, financial, accreditation, and related issues.
  • Oversees visual management system and daily engagement system management in collaboration with education coordinators who assist with data entry.
  • Provides operational leadership, supervision and mentoring of education coordinators.
  • Qualifications

    Required

    Candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree and work history will include 7-10 years of healthcare-related experience.

    Preferred

    Candidates will possess a Master's degree and work history will include 10 years working in a GME office or senior administrative level / Management role in an equivalent TJC-accredited academic health care facility.
