Tenure Track Assistant or Associate Professor of Political Science

Position Description:
The department of Criminal Justice & Political Science at NDSU is recruiting for a 9-month tenure-track position, at the rank of assistant professor-or, for especially qualified applicants, associate professor-starting Fall 2020. We seek candidates with expertise in any area of political economy, although especially invite applications from candidates who focus on the political economy of development. For candidates with a regional specialization, we are especially interested in scholars studying areas other than Europe and North America. Successful applicants should be versed in comparative or international political economy and have a strong commitment to policy-relevant research and teaching. This is a 50% research, 40% teaching, 10% service position. The teaching load is, at most, 2-2, with at least one course release in the first three years. While the tenure home will be in the Department of Criminal Justice & Political Science, this position will be affiliated with the NDSU College of Business' Challey Institute for Global Innovation & Growth. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research, teaching, and outreach that contributes to the Institute's mission. In turn, the Institute may also provide opportunities for graduate student assistance, course buyouts, and summer research support. Successful applicants will be prepared to teach core undergraduate courses in comparative politics and/or international relations, upper-division classes on political economy, political institutions, and global policy issues, and will have opportunities to contribute to existing and emerging programs in public policy, political and economic institutions, and global studies. The department has minimal service expectations for pre-tenure faculty.

Minimum Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for the position are: 1) a Ph.D. degree in Political Science, Economics, or a related discipline, conferred no later than August, 2020, 2) evidence of research productivity, or potential to publish scholarship in peer reviewed journals, presses, and other outlets appropriate to one's field, 3) experience teaching political economy, institutions, and/or global policy courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, 4) potential to contribute to the Challey Institute's mission, and 5) effective written and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
We will give priority to candidates who 1) can provide substantial evidence of research productivity and quality, 2) can provide substantial evidence of teaching effectiveness, 3) have experience pursuing and/or obtaining external funding, 4) have a research focus on the political economy of development, 5) conduct teaching and research that can contribute to NDSU's commitment to diversity and inclusion, 6) have experience working in, or developing, a global studies program, 7) have experience contributing to, or developing, a master's program in public policy, and/or 8) have a regional focus outside Europe and North America.
