Position Description:
North Dakota State University seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member, to begin August 2020 in Art Education/Studio Practice. This faculty member will lead efforts in Art Education and will work with the School of Ed. to oversee the program which is housed in Visual Arts. The faculty member will teach methods courses in Art Education along with studio/lecture courses in one or more of the following areas: Printmaking, Drawing, Foundations Design, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Graphic Design and Art History/Appreciation.

The new faculty member will advise students, participate in department and university committees, liaise with university offices, and promote/recruit for the program. Teaching load is 9 credits per semester. Tenure-track faculty at NDSU are expected to pursue creative activity/research in their area of expertise as part of their overall workload, a studio and access to all facilities will be provided to the successful candidate.

We seek an individual who will diversify the department by bringing a unique perspective and way of thinking about our field that will expand our capacity to inspire, mentor and teach students from a variety of backgrounds.

The NDSU Visual Arts Department is housed in Renaissance Hall a state-of-the-art redesign of an early 20th-century building in Downtown Fargo as part of the NDSU extended campus. The department is growing and part of a thriving design/art population at NDSU of over 600 student's campus-wide in departments that house Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Music, Theater and Interior Design and Apparel and textiles marketing. We are a strong part of the future of the university and have significant public support with a recent 2 million-dollar+ Falck Endowment established for visual arts that supports scholarships as well as program and faculty development.

The program is set within a bustling urban environment in a community of over 200,000 people with a strong tradition in the arts and an outstanding economy. The overall student population in the FM area is over 30,000 which brings a vibrancy that is unique to a mid-sized college city. Our students are at the center of the community while pursuing BFS , BS and BA degrees in Art, Design and Art Education.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or E.D. in Art Education OR Art Education Degree plus a terminal degree in studio practice with experience as a K-12 Educator. ( MFA )

Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Experience teaching at the collegiate level.

Ability and willingness to excel in teaching, research and service duties

Ability to work as a team member in a progressive and thriving department.

Preferred Qualifications:
Professional experience in the K-12 environment with experience in building and managing programs within that environment

Experience teaching Art Education courses at the Collegiate level.

Demonstrated ability to connect with regional K-12 environments to advocate for and inspire interest in the Arts as a vital part of the curriculum.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing landscapes in education and studio/art history practice to adapt teaching to contemporary practice.

Demonstrated exhibition/research track record that will form a basis for productivity in this area as a faculty member.

Flexibility and willingness to grow as a studio practitioner to diversify studio expertise to support a program that is increasingly interdisciplinary.

Demonstrated experience to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.
