RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Responsible for assisting with student outreach and community engagement activities and initiatives.
  2. Responsible for coordinating Health Sciences outreach efforts in close cooperation with Admissions where appropriate, including but not limited to; industry trade shows, elementary/middle/high school industry awareness events, BSC Career Explorer, Scrub Camp, social media, Health Sciences tours, open houses, and associated materials and promotional giveaways.
DUTIES:
Student Outreach - 50%
  1. Assists and serve as a resource with new student questions, registration and orientation.
  2. Answers general advising questions from students, faculty and others.
  3. Provides support and guidance to incoming and current health sciences students and in conjunction with academic program faculty.
  4. Provides assistance to faculty and works with MACC advisors with resources and materials.
  5. Assists with program enrollment management activities.
  6. Works with College Relations to assist with the creation of all Health Sciences related collateral marketing materials (written, visual, digital, etc.) and communications/PR efforts are in alignment with BSC's overall brand strategy, marketing campaigns, strategic plan and leverage promotional opportunities, and ensure materials are up to date.
  7. Provides oversight, coordination and dissemination of all Health Sciences print, online initiatives and /or the posting of social media efforts in collaboration with College Relations to elevate and strengthen BSC branding, awareness and recruitment activities of the health sciences programs.
  8. Coordinates, participates and ensures booth, registration, booth coverage and all amenities & logistics are in place for student outreach at career fairs and other events.
  9. Works collaboratively with College Relations to assess and adjust marketing initiatives for effectiveness and shares health industry information that maybe useful for future marketing and PR opportunities.
Community Engagement - 25%
  1. Coordinates the establishment of business and educational outreach initiatives with input from the Dean of CET, Health Sciences Department Chair, and faculty.
  2. Assists with the development, expansion, and communication of industry and educational relationships, including but not limited to, resource connection and additional student educational and business enhancement opportunities.
  3. Researches additional opportunities, process improvements, and efforts to increase the overall effectiveness of health sciences programs educational developments and outreach initiatives.
Student Advising and Retention - 20%
  1. Serves as a resource for referral to other campus services (i.e., academic counseling, personal counselor, financial aid, etc.).
  2. Identifies students who have high potential for dropping out. Communicates and implements retainment strategies with identified students.
  3. Provides intake advising.
  4. Provides general guidance related to course placement and other entry-level assessment questions.
  5. Serves as a resource to students interested in health sciences programs related to course scheduling, academic advisement and / or transfer options.
  6. Works with campus student organizations to promote health sciences programs.
  7. Promotes student success through special programs, improved processes and outreach campaigns related to effective retention strategies.
  8. Works with the MACC to provide support for other student success and retention activities.
General - 5%
  1. Develops plans and goals with input and direction from Dean of Students and Dean of Enrollment Management.
  2. Attends department meetings (Health Sciences, CET, MACC, Admissions) as needed.
  3. Stays current with understanding of campus services and policies.
  4. Ensures the website, print and all other communication messages are up-to-date and coordinates any changes with the appropriate personnel across BSC.
  5. Supports innovation, creativity and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc. in the department and as a whole for the college.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • Appropriate bachelor's degree and two years of related experience (i.e., marketing, sales, community outreach/engagement activities, higher education), or related associate degree and agreement to complete a bachelor's degree in a specified period of time with two years of related experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people.
  • Must have the ability to speak well and present a good public appearance.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and in collaboration with other to carry out associated duties.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to summarize and communicate relevant results of activities.
  • Proficient in computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), and excellent keyboarding skills.
  • Proficient working with multiple forms of social media including Facebook and Twitter.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Travel is required and must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred:
  • Communications expertise and demonstrated effectiveness.
  • Extensive experience in a comparable position (medical, business, management, marketing or communications).
  • Experience working in medical industry and / or knowledge of health sciences programs.
  • Bismarck State College experience.
