We are looking for an exceptional Controller to join our Finance Team. This role will manage all aspects of accounting, including but not limited to billing, general ledger, financial statements, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and tax compliance.

Our ideal Candidate will:
  • Acts as a business partner to the General Manager and company Directors to help attain efficiencies in operation and expense controls, increase company revenues and develop strategic plans for the organization.
  • Responsible for developing operating and capital budgets, including scheduling, analysis, reporting and transmission under the MIS system.
  • Oversees all accounting records and procedures, including general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, and detailed written reconciliations of all Asset and Liability Accounts.
  • Assumes final accountability for all the reporting functions, including financial statements, a local network of management information reports, and corporate MIS transmissions, including quarterly and annual summaries, monthly financial statistical, operating and capital original budget and budget status, and tax spreadsheets.
  • Assumes overall responsibility for timely and accurate billing of advertising and circulation accounts.
  • Assumes responsibility for the company's internal control procedures and self-evaluation of the control environment reflecting the overall attitude, awareness, and actions of management.
  • Functions as the chief financial analyst and forecaster to address economic events throughout the year.
  • Manages accounting support for the newspaper's strategic plan, including the development of individual goals for all accounting staff.
  • Oversees credit and collection function, including collection of advertising and circulation receivables and enforcement of credit policies.
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors a variety of advertising and circulation activities and provides management reports.
  • Works with other department heads and key supervisors to develop a partnering and consulting relationship.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • CPA is perferred
  • People management experience is a plus
  • Minimum 4-5 years of working in public or general corporate accounting environment
  • Previous experience in a business environment
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Excel
