Senior Tax Accountant

PSSI in Kieler, WI, is searching for a Senior Tax Accountant to add to our growing team. PSSI employs 17,000 team members across the US and Canada. We are food safety experts protecting the quality of our customers products, the integrity of their brands and the wellbeing of their customers.


The Sr. Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring that all tax returns are completed timely and accurately. Tax returns include various annual federal, state and provincial income tax returns, sales tax returns and payroll tax returns in both the US and Canada. This individual will not necessarily prepare the returns but is responsible for pulling together the data that will be provided to the ultimate external tax preparers.


Primary Responsibilities:

Income Tax

  • Oversee the process of completing federal and state tax returns for all entities. Will work with the external tax preparers to do this. This includes preparing the requested workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Calculate the year end tax accrual and prepare tax provisions.
  • Investigate and respond to tax notices from the various jurisdictions.
  • Maintain the tax basis depreciation schedules.

Sales Tax

  • Oversee the process of completing the sales and use tax returns.
  • Prepare the weekly information to accrue the use tax on chemical consumption.
  • Prepare and provide the use tax information to Avalara (or other external vendor) to ensure timely completion of returns.
  • Review prior sales tax study and update it.
  • Ensure we're incompliance with the state regulations and are charging our customers appropriately.
  • Coordinate sales tax audits and be responsible for corresponding with the sales tax auditor.

Payroll Taxes

  • Complete certain local payroll tax returns
  • Complete certain Canada returns. These could include payroll tax returns, payroll tax filings, Employer Health Tax and Workers Compensation Board filings.

Responsible for applying and completing the proper business licenses for each location. This person will make sure we stay in compliance with those laws.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Three years of tax experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong Excel Skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX experience
  • Experience with companies >$500 million in revenue
  • Tax experience with publicly traded companies
  • Experience with Canadian tax laws
