PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

As the Grain Pricing Analyst you will analyze, recommend and implement components of specific Pricing & Sales Support strategies and tactical plans for retention, growth and value for each of CP's grain/wheat market segments and implement competitive price and product offerings that generate value for customers and meet company goals.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Analyze, recommend and implement components of market strategies for market segments, that address: market, industry and segment size-up; market and modal competitive assessment; strategic product and price scenarios; target market opportunities; go to market strategies; product plans; fleet strategies; performance targets; and action plans to capture value (yield/margin and/or growth);
  • Strengthen CP's competitive position through active capture and analysis of market dynamics and the collection of strategic market segment intelligence;
  • Assess and recommend targeted approaches and strategic opportunities within Grain market segments, including: trading space boundaries for bids/RFPs; recommending CP's preferred position for new customer opportunities, emerging markets and/or significant changes to industry structures;
  • Provide supporting analytics for the execution of all strategic contract renewals for their market segment, including: input to the contract expiry calendar; analysis and assessment of relative value; identification of key value levers; providing input to the market strategy for their Grain segment; and providing input to sales strategy. Including cost and profitability analysis, quartiling, pricing, rate comparisons, volume flow and trend analysis, directional and balance analysis, performance to contract terms, etc;
  • Develop, recommend and go to market with pricing structures and plans for their market segment that align with the strategies developed to optimize the value generated by the Grain portfolio based on CP's service capabilities and the market environment;
  • Monitor performance against monthly and annual market segment revenue and market outlooks. Provide analysis and recommendations to shape their market segment portfolio to deliver to overall value to Grain and CP overall;
  • Represent CP's Grain business with Interline Partners on joint opportunity development and interline pricing tactics within defined strategies;
  • Provide analysis and recommendations in support of cross-functional project teams pertinent to their Grain market segment in order to deliver to project strategies and goals.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a University Undergraduate Degree, preferably in Business, Finance or Agriculture Economics;
  • Previous experience in the grain/wheat industry is preferred;
  • Previous Project/Work Plan management experience;
  • Financial analysis and acumen;
  • Business value analysis;
  • Execution skills;
  • Strong communications skills: written, verbal and presentation;
  • Relationship building cross functionally.
