Job Summary

Assists operating surgeons in carrying out technical surgical procedures in accordance with applicable safety laws and regulations. Assists operating surgeons with intra-operative procedures like homeostasis, exposure, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that assist the surgeon in carrying out a safe procedure with optimal results for the patient. Develops specialized preoperative plans in coordination with appropriate surgeons and health team members. Prepares surgical tools and equipment, takes preventative measures to ensure applicable health and safety regulations are satisfied, and assist with patient positioning when necessary. Administers preoperative medications and reports the responses of patients to assigned surgeons and anesthesiologists.

Department Details

Trauma 1 facility (highest level of trauma care - only location between Minneapolis, Seattle, Denver & Omaha) Offers 13 state-of-the- art operating rooms utilizing advanced cutting edge technology. The OR department is separated on 2 Floors to help serve the specific needs of Patients. On 2nd floor the center focuses on elective cases such as: Pediatrics and Pediatric Orthopedics, ENT, General, and Urology. Hours of Operating will generally be 630-1700.
On the 3rd floor there is focus on more complex cases and emergencies. We specialize on TRACS (Trauma Acute Care Services), General, Cardiovascular and Neurology. We collaborate with Cardiovascular/Peripheral-Vascular specialties including having Angio suites nearby. We have Neuro navigation systems and hybrid rooms. The OR utilizes block scheduling with all specialties. Call teams include General, Tracs, Cardiovascular and Ortho/Neuro. Rotating shifts encompass call with 24/7 shift coverage.
Number of ORs will increase to 28 by end of 2022

Qualifications

Appropriate education level required in accordance with the state certification and/or licensure including appropriate accreditation programs and agencies.
Required to meet one of the following criteria:
  • Eligibility to sit for the certification of Surgical Assistant exam.
  • Within the unit of Oral Surgery, certified and registered Dental Assistant in the state of practice while also processing certification (or eligible to obtain) from the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Anesthesia Assistants.
  • Current registration through the applicable state board of nursing as a Surgical Technologist while also having current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Current registration through the applicable state board of nursing as a Surgical Technologist while also having current certification through the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologist (NBCOT).
