Job Summary

Responsible for providing leadership of the day-to-day operations of the laboratory or laboratory department. Acts as a point of contact to technical staff and responds to questions and provides direction. May collect and process lab specimens and performs clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. May collect and manage samples of blood and other fluids from patients as needed. Responsible to oversee the performance of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Ensures all medical laboratory safety standards and quality requirements are met. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel. Serves as liaison between technical staff and laboratory leadership, as well as communicating issues and concerns to appropriate personnel. Must utilize critical and independent judgment in decision-making and problem-solving. Acts as point-person to technical staff and responds to questions and provides direction. May participate in the collection and preparation of required budget information.

Qualifications

Associate degree in laboratory or biological sciences required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Two years of laboratory related experience required.
Possess a national laboratory certification or laboratory specialty certification through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); or be registry eligible.
If working in North Dakota (ND) and not a cytotechnologist or histotechnologist, must be licensed or have a provisional license, by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice.
Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
