Job Summary
The Neurodiagnostic Tech performs EEGs, EMGs and Neurological tests within their scope of practice. The position ensures that physicians are notified when tests are complete and that tests are prepared in a timely manner.
Essential Job Functions
Education & Experience
Critical care exp needed **
Associate's in a related field or An equivalent combination of education and experience required
Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written format.
Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross CPR for Prof. Rescue; Within 2 Months of Start Date
The Neurodiagnostic Tech performs EEGs, EMGs and Neurological tests within their scope of practice. The position ensures that physicians are notified when tests are complete and that tests are prepared in a timely manner.
Essential Job Functions
- Takes appropriate patient history according to standard operating procedures. Explains test procedure to patient and family members.
- Performs EEG, EMG, NCV and Evoked Potentials tests and troubleshoots methodology to obtain optimal recordings. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and repair them or report them promptly.
- Recognized artifact (patient or environmental). Documents, eliminates, or takes proper measure to monitor artifact or excessive stimulus artifact in order to obtain optimal responses.
- Maintains knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology, basic electronics and electrical safety. Maintains knowledge of EEG instrumentation, pattern recognition and various medical, and pharmacological conditions that influence the EEG. Demonstrates knowledge, setup location and use of equipment for assigned area.
- Identifies high risk situations and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
