Job Summary

The Home Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing instruction, assessment, follow-up and on call services to patients using respiratory equipment, such as apnea monitors, oxygen, ventilators, etc. in the home setting. The Home Respiratory Therapist is also responsible for occasionally delivering and providing instruction to customers receiving other items of durable medical equipment. They also participate in formal, as well as informal marketing of all products and services.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provides initial instruction to patients regarding proper use and care of medical equipment and supplies. Responsible for intake, education, and follow-up for customers. Contacts physicians or appropriate individuals when problems or concerns develop, or for discontinuation orders.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and capability of care and monitoring all rental equipment including tracking of inventory.
  • Initiates and completes all paperwork, including admissions, education and set up. Prepares charts for daily appointments. Obtains signed orders from physician for any changes or discontinuation of orders.
  • Provides input and development of applicable marketing plans and participates in marketing activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
  • Demonstrates understanding and follows infection control policies and procedures according to standard operating procedure.
  • Maintains requirements for age specific competencies for the position and demonstrates the knowledge or principles of growth and developments and the skills necessary to providepatient/customer care/services.


License, Certification & Registration
  • Respiratory Therapist - Registered, North Dakota State Board of Respiratory Care, Prior to Start Date
  • Respiratory Therapist - Registered Minnesota Board of Medical Practice, within 4 Months of Start Date
  • Current ND or MN Driver's License with Acceptable Driving Record
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross CPR for Prof. Rescue, within 2 Months of Start Date
  • MN Background Study, Minnesota Department of Human Services, Prior Start Date
