The QTI Group has been exclusively retained by Madison Region Economic Partnership to recruit for their new President and Chief Executive Officer. The President and Chief Executive Officer will serve as the dynamic leader of the Madison Region Economic Partnership, someone who will ignite asset-based economic development in this growing region from national and international investors and partners, while fostering entrepreneurship within the Region. With support from the board of directors, this individual will be the organization's chief promoter, advocate and organizer. He/she will actualize success for the Advance Now 2.0 Strategy by raising necessary funds to support the vision of a vital economy buoyed by economic and racial diversity. The President and CEO will promote both the investment opportunities and the well-being of underserved communities in the Region as core tenets of success. He/she will oversee programs to educate a changing and more diverse workforce. The President and CEO will invite entrepreneurship, innovation, a willingness to overcome former paradigms, and creative leadership as building blocks of successful economic development. He/she will effectively communicate these success stories to advance the mission. The President and CEO will be familiar with and passionate about the Region, to hit the ground running. This individual will take responsibility for building and maintaining quality relationships with economic development partners, cities, counties, the state, communities of color, chambers of commerce, the media, and other organizations that collectively impact the economic vitality of the southcentral part of the state. He/she will drive national and international investment in the Region to meet the evolving needs of the current and future economy. Expenditure of investment funds will be efficient and consistent with the budget and strategy passed by the board of directors. The CEO will also directly hire and supervise staff with diversity as a priority; she/he will authorize any changes in the organizational staff and structure, including the hiring of a new Vice President of Development, currently a vacant position.Position Responsibilities
  • Implement the comprehensive Advance Now 2.0 Strategy, including carrying out the initial work program and confirming subsequent annual programs.
  • Work closely with representatives of cities, counties, the State of Wisconsin, local economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, communities of color, and other relevant partners to advance the Strategy and implementation plans. Nurture relationships that enhance the MadREP network and opportunities.
  • Proactively create and lead an aggressive fundraising strategy; connect with potential investors, identify leaders and partners who will assist in meeting fundraising goals and make key asks.
  • Serve as the organization's principal spokesperson and cheerleader, ensuring that a strong communications effort is in place that meets internal and external needs.
  • Develop and manage an annual budget that effectively utilizes private and public funds and is able to support optimum staff leadership to implement the strategy.
  • Advocate at all levels of government for projects and investments that further the Madison Region's competitive capacity.
  • Create, lead and motivate a dedicated and diverse team that is committed to the development and execution of highly effective programs and partnerships.
  • Manage relationships with the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, including training, updating them on progress, seeking input and approval, developing champions for fundraising and other advocacy purposes.,
  • Serve as the lead manager on parts of the Advance Now 2.0 Strategy, especially on retention and attraction opportunities which may involve negotiation and/or liaison with funding sources.
  • Work closely with staff, board and partners to enhance the MadREP brand and to build trust in the Region.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Required
  • Ten years in a top leadership position with influence over decisions which have supported and influenced economic development.
  • Experience in successful community and economic development in two or more communities preferred.
  • Ability to represent and enhance the reputation of MadREP, as a compelling face of the organization.
  • Experience successfully raising funds among various stakeholder groups to serve initiatives bettering a community.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse partners in the public, nonprofit and private sectors to mutually benefit all communities within the Region, including urban, rural, racially diverse, and underserved communities.
  • A commitment to furthering the workforce diversity of the Region, with a knowledge of diversity issues, trends and opportunities.
  • Experience in community development practices such as tax incremental financing, revolving loans and microloans, business park development, grants and infrastructure planning.
  • Successful leadership of a staff and a budget, including a track record of expanding staff diversity.
  • Knowledge of industry practices, exporting, and foreign direct investment.
  • Knowledge of issues around workforce development, including collaboration with academic institutions and workforce development boards that promote efforts specifically targeting underserved communities.
  • Familiarity with professional BRE surveys.
  • Skill in strategically dealing with complex economic, political, and financial issues and finding creative solutions to achieving established goals.
  • Expertise in public policy dynamics.
  • Expertise in using operational and marketing technology to effectively advance the mission of an organization.
  • Ability to recruit, motivate and work with highly successful and influential volunteers from diverse communities within the Region.
  • A four-year degree from an accredited college or university required; advanced degree preferred. Professional certification (CCE, OM, CEcD is preferred.
