GENERAL SUMMARY

The successful candidate serving in the position will be primarily responsible for programming and systems support for university servers, server applications, and end user technology hardware, including management of server operating systems, maintenance of applications used to create and modify user network accounts, synchronization of files between servers and mobile devices and university backup strategy. The individual in this position works closely with the Network Administrator and other USF Information Technology staff, especially those working with campus hardware, cross-training where possible under the direction of the Vice President for Information Technology/CIO or designee.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

  • Design, manage and maintain Microsoft Windows server operating systems and Linux/Unix operating systems where necessary, including planning for future need, upgrades and system patches
  • Design and manage central business applications including university email systems and the helpdesk application
  • Design and manage virtual server environment and storage systems
  • Design and manage printer management applications
  • Create, update and delete user network accounts as needed by the Registrar and Human Resources offices within the established University of Sioux Falls policies and procedures
  • Maintain self-help systems made available for end users for maintenance of their accounts, including password reset, single sign-on and identity management
  • Design and maintain anti-virus and system imaging systems
  • Support for campus PCs and other end-user technology, including operating system images and planning for hardware needs, including personal devices that students and personnel use to access campus resources
  • Availability and coordination of training for end-users in specific application or system use
  • Assist University personnel and students with network, telephone and audio/visual cabling and support
  • Cross-training on institutional technology systems, programs, procedures as needed
  • Understand and support the educational and Christian mission of USF
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or its equivalent preferred; Associate degree considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years in server management required.
  • Certification in Microsoft servers (MCSA, MCSE) and VMware preferred.
  • Proven expertise with Microsoft Windows server operating systems, including Active Directory, group policies, roaming profiles and interfacing Active Directory to external systems.
  • Experience with Linux and/or UNIX operating systems and open-source tools.
  • Ability to use Power Shell and Visual Basic scripting.
  • Success in and ability to communicate effectively with vendors for help troubleshooting problems and/or replacing defective products.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage changing priorities effectively.
  • Verifiable knowledge of current technology and best practices in the field
  • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication with ability to create clear documentation for projects and procedures.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Christian mission.
  • Occasional work during night or weekend may be necessary.
  • Ability to regularly lift and /or move up to 35 pounds; successfully pass required background check; with valid driver's license and ability to regularly stand at workbench or with rack-mounted equipment, sit in a typical office environment; walk from office to office around campus as necessary for job; lift and use ladder, pull cable or install cable occasionally as needed during the course of the job.
