Job Summary

Provides leadership in improving job performance that assists in advancing the skills and expertise of Sanford employees, students, and/or community members. Leads the development of system wide associate education programs and onboarding strategies. Utilizes performance technology/consulting and improvement strategies while partnering with the organization and key stakeholders to identify and analyze performance gaps to design the most effective educational interventions. Strives towards successful development of coursework for ideal learning experience. Evaluates demographics, trends and issues affecting specific focus area, market, and/or facility setting and needs; makes recommendations accordingly. Sets an example by developing strong working relationships, management and overseeing of projects, facilitate change processes and effectively communicate to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrates successfully working with diverse groups of people in order to accomplish a common goal. Exhibits flexibility with acceptance of variable work schedules/assignments. Participates in activities to promote the department and Sanford Health. Effective communication skills are essential: personal, verbal, written, and electronic. Ability to function in a collaborative, fast-paced, customer-driven organization. Demonstrable expert knowledge in Microsoft Office/Windows applications, analytical decision-making, information gathering, presentation, project management, group facilitation, innovative problem solving, and demonstrable training skills. Expected to demonstrate leadership to employees, serving as a role model, and encouraging vision and change projects. Assists in the training of new staff members and the development of existing staff members. Practices positive collaboration and converts difficult interactions into productive ones. May also participate in serving and or chair departmental/organization committees and task forces as needed. May be asked to assist with other projects or work assignments as needed by organization, department or leadership.

Department Details

This position will be the MLT Program Director at Bismarck State College and has a dual reporting structure, however, it is primarily overseen by BSC. BSC has a beautiful campus and the MLT program has been relocated to a newly designed, state-of-the-art building to provide the best learning environment to its students and faculty. The MLT Program Director will:
• Participate in didactic instruction by teaching in those sections of the program as delineated by contract.
• Develop and administer the didactic and clinical segments of the program, curriculum, selection and supervision of instructors, scheduling of classes and clinical rotations, selection of textbooks, audio-visual and student lab/demonstration materials.
• Supervise instruction in the clinical facilities by coordination with the clinical instructors in each lab section included in the MLT Program curriculum.
• Supervise or participate directly in curriculum planning and development.
• Develop and implement instruments for evaluating student progress, program effectiveness and general continuous quality improvement.
• Coordinate/participate in preparation of student clinical rotation assignments.
• Participate in formulation of program admission policies and recruitment.
• Serve as liaison between the college and its clinical affiliates for the MLT Program.
• Ensure NAACLS accreditation of the MLT Program is maintained.

Qualifications

Master's degree required. Field of study preference based on department training focus and specialties.
Master's or Doctoral degree and at least three years of experience in clinical laboratory science/medical technology education that includes teaching courses, conducting and supervising clinical laboratory learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, providing input into curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and evaluation of program effectiveness.
When a clinical license is applicable, must possess unencumbered license with the applicable state(s) administered examiners and awarded by a governmental licensing agency. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications based on program training needs of the department and population focus. This role is also identified and utilized in Bismarck State College (BSC) for clinical laboratory. This contract position requires a certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, or a certification agency of equal status, i.e., the National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel. This position is classified as a Program Director and must hold a faculty appointment in each affiliated academic institution. The appointment may be a regular one, a non-salaried clinical or courtesy appointment, or an adjunct appointment, depending on the regulations of the institution. At this time, no license is required.
