As the department manager, the primary responsibility is managing all aspects of the department. This includes identifying and leading improvement initiatives, assigning projects, developing and monitoring schedules, maintaining proper staffing levels and skill sets, training, mentoring and developing employees, performing performance reviews, holding self and direct reports accountable for meeting project and corporate objectives, and working closely with other departments to build a cohesive team and overcome departmental boundaries.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Emphasize and enforce our corporate mission, core values and guiding principles within the department and throughout the organization.
Create and maintain a continuous improvement mindset within the department.
Identify/lead initiatives to improve departmental efficiency, productivity & quality.
Develop project charters, work plans and assign resources in support of departmental initiatives. Assign resources to other corporate initiatives that require project management support.
Assign new RFQs and sold projects to the appropriate Project Manager.
Monitor schedules to make sure we are meeting our internal and external customer commitments.
Maintain proper staffing levels by hiring additional Project Managers in accordance with our capacity requirements and strategic objectives.
Manage, train, develop and mentor employees so they become contributing members of the team and reach their full potential.
Hold the staff accountable for meeting quality, delivery, and financial commitments and objectives, and for meeting customer expectations.
Represent the project management team at meetings and in other areas as required.
Work closely with other functional departs (ie sales, estimating, manufacturing, installation, automation, purchasing, etc.) to build unity in pursuit of our corporate goals and strategic objectives.
Monitor department performance metrics to make sure we are meeting our goals and report results to the Director of Finance.
Ensures that we have a good understanding of industry trends and the skills needed within Project Management and that our employees are trained accordingly.
Develop and periodically update SOPs, Project Procedures Manual (PPM), and Project Management Manual (PMM)
Extensive knowledge of accepted personnel, supervisory, financial, operational, project management, customer service and Lean Six Sigma principles and practices.

Required Knowledge and Abilities:

Extensive knowledge of Project Management principles and practices.
Ability to plan, supervise, manage and participate in a wide variety of Project Management related activities.
Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate and interact with direct reports, associates, supervisors, customers and individuals from other organizations.
Ability to effectively mentor and coach direct reports and initiate positive change within the department and organization.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in business or technical fields, or equivalent experience in industry. 2+ years of supervisory/management experience is preferred with 7-10 years direct Project Management work experience. A thorough understanding and ability to use Microsoft software applications including Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint is required.
