MYR Energy Services provides EPC contracting services for renewable and solar energy facilities throughout the U.S. including permitting, energy storage, complete solar facilities, and substation and transmission line interconnections.

We are currently hiring for Design and Modeling Manager to oversee the design process for utility-scale solar construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage/ perform detailed layout design for development pipeline of solar energy projects. Evaluate project siting constraints, solar module, inverter, and racking technologies, BOP (balance of plant) considerations, and solar resource data to maximize project value.
  • Lead design and engineering team members in the incorporation of constructability, logistics, and technical innovations to optimize design solutions
  • Regularly interface with customers to identify expectations and project success factors while providing meaningful input to project programing/development
  • Utilize performance modeling software including PVSyst, HelioScope and System Advisory Model (SAM) to prepare energy production estimates and other production profile deliverables such as 8760s and performance optimization
  • Analyze available meteorological datasets and utilize MCP (Measure-Correlate-Predict) methods to assess project resource characteristics
  • Perform loss calculations (100% output/annualized)
  • Prepare conceptual project layouts utilizing CAD and GIS software. Optimize layouts in order to maximize project value
  • Determine best layout of collection system; including consideration of constructability constraints such as overhead/underground, follow roads/cross country, and junction box locations
  • Develop one-line diagrams of collection system, as well as standard details of electrical construction that are typical to solar projects
  • Review manufacturer's data to determine extent of scope for electrical portion of solar projects, including wiring requirements and electrical characteristics (i.e. grounding requirements, power factor ranges, lightning protection requirements, generator outputs, etc.)
  • Interface with PV module, inverter, and racking OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to obtain technical information and stay apprised of technology advancements and trends.
  • Communicate and coordinate with local utilities to ensure appropriate interconnection requirements so the project can interconnect to the electrical grid



Required Skills

  • Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills
  • Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple project tasks
  • Design optimization skills that involve technical parameters but considering economic feedback for decisions.
  • Holistic project understanding, to put together an all-encompassing scope with parts and engineering scopes.
  • Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
  • Minimum three years in electrical construction management or electrical design
  • Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code a plus
  • Experience with solar energy modeling software including PVSyst, HelioScope and SAM
  • Familiarity with concepts such as NPV, IRR and LCOE
  • Knowledge of Lean practices is preferred

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other applicable engineering
  • Minimum two years in solar electrical design
  • Working knowledge of NEC code and NE safety code a plus
