Position Information

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the promotion and use of technology, specifically the learning management system and tools, across programs and courses, overseeing the establishment, maintenance, and growth of Bismarck State College's military and veteran partnerships, and ensuring compliance (federal, state, and local) of these areas.

Is directly accountable and responsible to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Position Description & Details

DUTIES:

Military & Veteran Programming
  1. Works with all departments across campus to help ensure a military friendly atmosphere and attitude is developed and maintained.
  2. Establishes, develops, and continually improves working relationships with military education officers and others involved in educating military personnel.
  3. Maintain compliance of military affairs programming at the college.
  4. Initiate and develop new co-curricular programming for military and veteran students.
  5. Collaborates with departments to enhance recruitment and retention activities for veteran students.

Distance Education
  1. Collaborates with all departments across campus in the development, implementation, and leadership of online modalities of academic and student support services.
  2. Ensure compliance with all accreditation and Department of Education requirements.
  3. Ensure compliance with licensing, copyright laws, and accessibility needs connected to online/hybrid coursework.
  4. Collaborate with academic leaders to ensure high quality online/hybrid programming consistent with on-campus offerings.
  5. Collaborate with the Teaching & Learning Center to ensure effective pedagogical strategies are incorporated within online/hybrid course offerings leading to student success.
  6. Assist in development of marketing efforts for distance education programs.
  7. Serve as a campus liaison for state and regional agencies focused on distance education.
  8. Acts as a liaison to undergraduate and graduate programs offered on campus by educational partners.

General
  1. Oversees instructional technology support for campus within campus classrooms, networked IVN rooms, and campus meeting rooms.
  2. Hire, supervise, coordinate, and evaluate distance education and military affairs staff.
  3. Manage budget, contracts, purchasing, and payments associated with distance education and military affairs programming.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervises four full-time benefited positions.

  • Occasionally - 1-33% - Reach with hands and arms, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl, climb or balance, or lift up to 25 pounds.


This position is generally not aligned for telecommuting work structures.

Required Competencies

  • Appropriate master's degree with three years of progressive experience in higher education, military or career counseling, recruiting, and/or a business setting, or related bachelor's degree and agreement to complete a master's degree in a specified period of time.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and passion for the education of veterans.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing high quality education through distance learning formats.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with instructional technologies, including electronic conference, e-mail internet, compressed audio/video systems, interactive multimedia, and computer-based learning systems.
  • Management experience in the areas of budgeting, strategic planning, decision-making and supervising.
  • Must have the ability to speak well and present a good public appearance.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and in collaboration with other to carry out associated duties.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Travel is required and must have a valid driver's license.


Preferred Qualifications

  • More than three years of directly related experience in distance education and/or military affairs.
