Job Summary
Under specific direction, performs technical procedures in support of the Medical Genetics Laboratory in a manner that ensures accurate and reliable clinical results following Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP) guidelines. Runs complex pieces of equipment requiring advanced specialized training. Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains equipment and lab area. Utilizes knowledge of scientific clinical laboratory protocols. Comprehends numeric concepts and performs numeric calculations. Participates in the development and revision of standard operating procedures. Ability to work collaboratively with a research and/or clinical group or team.
Possesses a basic or general knowledge of laboratory procedures. Works under close supervision of more senior researchers with some independent judgment. Possesses excellent time management and organizational skills. Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Expected to learn computer scripting in the form of on-the-job training and/or learning. Ability and willingness to travel to other laboratory locations as necessary. Cross-trains into Molecular Genetics Division (MGL). Becomes involved with special projects as necessary.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a clinical, health or life sciences field required.
Current valid driver’s license, and must meet all medical guidelines for Sanford Health Category III drivers.
