Associate Professor with Tenure
The Division of Critical Care/Acute Care Surgery at the University of Minnesota is seeking a qualified individual for a Full time tenure track position as an Associate Professor. Qualified candidates must have an M.D. degree and be board certified in surgery and critical care. Clinical caseload will include trauma, surgical critical care, and general surgery cases. Candiates must possess expertise in veno-venous ECMO cannulation and management. Candidates must also have a developed an independently funded research program focusing on clinical informatics and clinical research, with a specific focus on developing a learning health system for patients with traumatic injuries and critical illness. Candidates should have achieved a track record of substantial extramural funding as Principal Investigator. Candidates must also have experience leading multicenter randomized clinical trials.
Successful candidates will have strong technical skills in general surgery and significant experience with surgical oCompanyomes research, health informatics (natural language processing, computer vision, big data analytics), clinical trials and quality improvement/informatics implementation. They must have completed formalized training including graduate level coursework in clinical research including biostatistics, health informatics, and clinical trials. They must have experience in quality improvement and clinical informatics implementation (including peer reviewed publications of successfully implemented informatics projects).
About the Job
Responsibilities include (1) participating as the attending staff in one or more of the intensive care units associated with the Division; (2) participation as a surgeon or intensivist at one of our partner facilities, (3) developing an independently funded clinical informatics research program (4) teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows; and (5) full participation in departmental activities. The Division of Surgical Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery has been at the forefront of surgical critical care since the emergence of the specialty. Founded by Frank B. Cerra, the division started one of the first surgical critical care fellowships in the country, which is now one of the largest. Our board-certified surgical intensivists study and utilize the latest in advanced, life-saving technologies to provide cutting edge multidisciplinary intensive care for all critically ill patients in partnership with specialties throughout our academic health care system. The University of Minnesota Medical Center, our primary teaching hospital, has been an ECMO center of excellence since 2, and a Platinum center of excellence since 2017. Our surgical practice provides expertise in emergency surgery, abdominal surgery, infections, trauma, and the management of surgical conditions in complex, complicated patients.
