Our company is nationwide and based in Nashville, Tennessee.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesThereare four services that comprise the bulk of our work in cardiovascularmonitoring: invasive line assistance andhemodynamic monitoring, nerve blocks, cell savers, and intra-aortic balloonpumps. Our role in the hospital allows us to be with a variety of patients, cases, and various levels of emergencies.Oneof the procedures the CVMT is involved with is called invasive lineassistance. This usually involves theCVMT assigned to make fluid setups as ordered by the physician. These prepared fluid lines are connected tothe patient so that the anesthesia team is able to directly monitor arterial, central venous and pulmonary arterial pressures. During the actual procedure of placing theinvasive lines (this usually takes place in the operating room before the actualsurgery takes place), the CVMT assists the anesthesiologist by gathering theappropriate supplies, handing supplies off in a sterile manner and operatingthe ultrasound.Priorto the start of a patient's surgery, the CVMT also can assist theanesthesiologist with placement of nerve blocks. Nerve blocks enable ananesthesiologist to bathe a specific nerve in a local anesthetic which allowsfor pain control following orthopedic procedures. The CVMT's assist with nerveblocks in a very similar manner to the placement of invasive monitoring lines-whereasthe CVMT's prepare kits, operate the ultrasound, and ensure all appropriatemonitors are in place.Duringthe actual procedure, the CVMT may be assigned to operate blood collectiondevices, such as a cell saver. Cell savers enable blood to be collected from asurgical procedure, which can then be processed to red blood cells and returnedback to the patient. This reduces the need for transfusions of donated redblood cells (RBCs). For this service, the CVMT's typically monitors the machineduring the operating room case. If thepatient experiences significant blood loss, the CVMT begins processing theblood so that it can be returned to the patient.Twodevices that the CVMT operates outside of the operating room are theIntra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) and the Impella device. To over simplify, anIABP is a device that reduces the workload on the heart while simultaneouslyincreasing cardiac tissue oxygenation after the patient has a cardiac event, such as a heart attack. IABPs are placed by a physician (usuallyemergently) into a patient's aorta. The Impella pump also helps support theheart by promoting blood flow from the left ventricle to the aorta and to therest of the body. These devices are frequently placed during high-riskPercutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures which can be scheduled or emergent. The CVMTmonitors and operates the functioning of both machines in the operating room and in cath lab, and afterthey are placed and the patient is in the intensive care unit.TheCVMT position is full time and requires a two-year commitment. Due to the rigorous three-month clinicaltraining program, it is our expectation that the new hire will commit to theposition and become an integral member of our team. After successfully completing the trainingprogram, the new CVMT will be allowed to work independently with the physiciansand provide services.Themajority of our caseload is done at Abbott Northwestern Hospital inMinneapolis, but we also provide our CVMT services to United, Mercy, FairviewSouthdale, HCMC, and North Memorial, to name a few.Position RequirementsHighschool diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree in science or related field preferred.Previousrelated medical experience preferred.Ability to work on Call; must live within 30 minutes from thehospital. The Successful CandidateThe successful candidate mustbring a high level of ethical, intellectual, professional and personal valuesthat complement the team and company vision.
