Title: Manufacturing Engineer V
Contract: 12+ Months
Location : MINERAL POINT, Wisconsin, United States,53565

Position Title: Industrial Engineer

Job Summary:
Designs, improves, and installs integrated manufacturing or administrative systems which use people, materials, information, equipment, and energy.

Key Responsibilities:
Conducts work studies for new and current production lines. Creates standard work methods for new and current production lines. Designs safe and efficient work stations for manufacturing environments, using plant layout, ergonomic, and work station design principles. Completes cost analysis on make vs. buy decisions for component or sub-assemblies. Coaches and mentors less experienced Industrial Engineers.

Qualifications and Competencies:
* Simulation: Responsible for envisioning creative solutions for process/method improvement and for leading others in the successful implementation of that vision. Design simulation models to reflect manufacturing process using discrete event simulators such as Witness and AutoMod. Can develop discrete-event simulation models using statistical analysis, sensitivity analysis, and risk analysis tools and propose alternatives for manufacturing process design. Can use the results of the simulation to make business decisions.
* Work Measurement Studies: This skill involves being able to perform and utilize work measurement studies or how long a job takes to perform. The experts who conduct work measurement studies should not only be able to conduct the studies, but apply the special rules to optimize the accuracy of the studies Specialist. Knows how to conduct a work measurement study to develop a work standard using a basic time study approach using performance ratings or using pre-determined time elements with allowances. Knows how to use the outputs of a work measurement study to establish production costs, throughput times, capacity levels, manpower plans, etc.
* Line Balancing: The ability to balance a line. This requires an evaluation of work activities to be performed by a person or machine in relationship to the customer/product demand rate. A well-balanced line or process will take the shortest amount of time to deliver a product and will be the most efficient. Knows how to obtain the necessary data to balance a line and can identify the opportunities to make it more efficient. Understand the terms for work in process, level loading, throughput time, take time, and process efficiency level. Can calculate each of these values from a data set. Can apply line balancing analysis to an administrative work flow.
* Workstation Design: This skill involves being able to design an operator station. Design of an operator station requires knowledge of anthropometrics, ergonomics, National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) safety standards, office layout guidelines, etc. Many of these standards must be utilized to develop an efficient work station design. Can design workstations for an entire assembly line or office area, considering multiple process types and people.
* Asset Utilization Management: Method of management of equipment which incorporates business objectives such as asset availability, product quality and overall equipment efficiency (OEE). Incorporates output to drive business decisions regarding staffing, equipment replacement / rebuilds, and redundant plant. Utilizes metrics such as Maintenance cost as a percent of RAV (replacement asset value), stocked indirect material, repair parts, and operational supplies as a percent of RA. Uses OEE data in decision making regarding improvements in maintenance plan versus equipment renovation. Utilizes Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) data to adjust maintenance plan. Uses efficiency data and utilization data to influence decisions.
* Process Layout: The ability to develop process layouts which encompasses all equipment, tooling and material flows necessary to provide for an effective Product Assembly process. The process layout should be completed using AutoCAD and should be to scale, including all process steps while accounting for Safety, Quality, Ergonomics, Throughput, and Product cost. Completed a minimum of 5 process layouts in which they have been the process leader. All layouts were completed using a software package.
* Ergonomics: Intended to reduce operator fatigue and discomfort. It is a scientific discipline concerned with the understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and the profession that applies theory, principles, data and methods to design in order to optimize human well-being and overall system performance. Can develop and implement a comprehensive ergonomics program for the performance cell based on statistical data and can make the necessary improvements to reduce/eliminate ergonomic risk factors. Certified as an Ergo in Action Green Belt.
* Equipment / Capital Procurement: Understanding the requirements for purchasing tools and equipment according to Cummins Production Equipment Specifications. Capital purchases require the approval of a Request for Capital Appropriations (RFA) which includes justification of the project from a financial/ strategic standpoint and must be completed in a specific format defined by the documented procedure. Thorough understanding of the Cummins Production Equipment Specifications. Significant experience in purchasing tools and equipment. Has written significant Request for Capital Appropriations (over $100K).
* Responsible for designing engineered material flow to support production and warehousing operations.
* Provide engineering support for material flow processes, document standard procedures, develop layouts and act as the engineering liaison to Materials dept.
* This position works with Material Handling and warehousing teams, Production, Engineering and Maintenance to design and implement robust processes and strive for continuous improvement.
* Applies technical expertise in the development of material flow processes. Work involves choosing between proven procedures and innovative solutions with moderate technical challenges. Designs and/or develops material flow processes and tools. Recommends changes to increase safety, reduce costs, improve quality and optimize efficiency.
* Participates in plant layout activities. Develops floor space analyses to confirm storage requirements and recommend practical solutions where required. Assists in qualifying manual and powered material handling equipment requirements.
* Works to design and continuously improve material flow and reduce double handling for all production lines in the plant. Stays consistent with Lean principles and flow. Creates and maintains layouts of plant supermarket, staging and sequencing areas to facilitate material handling, internal logistics, space utilization, and labor. Defines in-plant store and Kanban inventories considering labor and space constraints; assists to define appropriate goals and metrics for proper material control.
* Provides vehicle and pedestrian flow/congestion/safety analyses and recommend practical solutions where required.
* Interacts on a regular basis with other functional groups and vendors on technical matters.
* Administers technical procedures including process and work procedures. Implements industrial engineering system (standard cost data, capacity and equipment requirement forecasting, shop floor control system).

Position Requirements:
* A Bachelors' Degree is required in order to be considered for this opportunity. Engineering degrees in Industrial and/or Manufacturing are preferred.
