The Clinical Nurse Educator will facilitate the RN nurse residency program, initial and ongoing skills for med/surg units and project management.

Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse Educator integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based principles, and clinical expertise into educational experiences for both new employees and experienced staff. The Educator stays current with regulatory requirements and quality metrics, identifying knowledge gaps, works corroboratively with the leaders of the departments to create learning plans and implement new standards. This position has responsibilities in consulting, teaching, lesson planning, coaching, program development and coordination, as well as research and evaluation. This role serves as a liaison to a variety of partners both within and external to Altru Health System.

Essential Job Functions

Assists with the development, implementation, and evaluation of the applicable curriculum based on patient care needs. Provides leadership and supervision to RNs and other employees associated with the residency program.

Participates in a systemic, interdisciplinary, and ongoing evaluation of programs, process improvement, desired patient-centered outcomes, and organizational outcomes. Establishes credibility with physicians, leadership, and outside business partners and customers.

Optimizes employee performance, efficiency, effectiveness, productivity, customer service, teamwork, and specific job tasks by providing educational opportunities, training and development, one-on-one coaching, consultation, and advisement to individual staff members, the department, and other hospital staff.

Directs and performs orientation appropriate to all new patient care employees and re-orients/educates current employees to changes in policies and procedures and federal and state guidelines and regulations regarding care and documentation.

Serves as an expert resource for the organization's education agenda including the development, delivery, and evaluation of educational programming. This includes delivering courses in a variety of formats such as classroom, e-learning, other blended learning modalities, standardized and custom materials that align to the organization's education strategy as well as coaching/consultation to individual instructors and departments as needed.

Engages in a continuous process improvement, reviewing current literature related to best practices for the purposes of maintaining and improving clinical and teaching competencies.

Develops, implements, and evaluates curricula based on adult learning principles and evidenced based practice to meet changing practices, standards and equipment/supplies.

Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

Performs essential job functions of 24/7 nurse.

Demonstrates understanding and follows infection control policies and procedures according to standard operating procedure.

Maintains requirements for age specific competencies for the position and demonstrates the knowledge or principles of growth and developments and the skills necessary to provide patient/customer care/services.

License, Certification & Registration

Registered Nurse-North Dakota Board of Nursing (NDBON) or Compact State Agreement-Prior to Start Date

American Heart Association Instructor-American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross- within 6 months of start date

Education & Experience

Bachelor's Nursing-Required

Master's Nursing Education-Preferred

A minimum of 3 years of related experience-Required

Knowledge & Skills

Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written format; Required

Demonstrates the ability to motivate people, and identify and apply resources effectively; Required

Demonstrates the ability to multitask and be detail-oriented; Required
