We are recruiting a Mechanic for a family-owned and -operated landscaping company serving the Fox Valley Area. The Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring all company equipment and vehicles are well-maintained and readily available for use by company crews. The Mechanic will collaborate with the company's high-energy, driven team where the Mechanic's experience and leadership will contribute to the company's growth and success. Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, maintain, repair, assemble and overhaul machinery, equipment and vehicles including trucks, tractors, landscape equipment, mowers, small engine motors and other mechanized equipment in a timely and efficient manner

  • Make recommendations on repair vs. replacement of equipment

  • Manage all aspects of equipment maintenance, including preventative maintenance schedules and daily equipment checks

  • Manage upkeep and improvements to business property including shop cleanliness and cleanliness and inventory of tools and supplies

  • Manage equipment database in Asset

  • Participate in DOT inspections

  • Work with Operations Manager on managing and prioritizing shop repair and maintenance schedules

  • Provide daily updates to Operating Manager

  • Review daily DOT sheets

  • Look for, develop and implement ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency

  • Conduct safety and operational training to new and existing team members

  • Be a positive role model and mentor to other team members

  • Snow Removal: This position will be on call during any winter storms and will be part of our snow removal team that involves snow plowing, salting, snow blowing, and shoveling. This position will also be responsible for regular and on-call inspection, maintenance and repair of our snow equipment which may be on or off site, as needed.

  • Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree or Technical Certificate or Diploma preferred

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of small and/or heavy equipment mechanic experience

  • Must be experienced in hydraulics, air brakes, and have a background working on trucks with both gas and diesel engines

  • Must have a desire to work with all types of equipment repairs including large and small Landscape related equipment

  • Must have a CDL license or the ability to obtain

  • Ability to work overtime, as needed

  • This position requires regular heavy lifting, bending, kneeling and working outdoors in all types of weather

  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks

  • Must adapt well to change and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
