Description

The Athletic Department at the University of North Dakota is currently looking for a Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) Coordinator to join our team.

This position will provide assistance to the Athletics Department in the area of academic services including developing learning strategies that promote academic improvement and serving as an academic advisor. This position is responsible for monitoring progress toward degree certification for NCAA eligibility (PTDs) as well as initial eligibility for PSA’s for sports assigned. This position also assists with continuing eligibility of current student-athletes including monitoring, recording and reviewing academic progress, and communicating with staff and student-athletes, particularly for assigned teams. This position will assist with all student-athlete development programming. This position will also assist with various internal operation tasks on a daily basis as assigned by the Associate AD, Internal Operations/SWA.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for meeting with and developing individual academic plans (assisting with class selection, monitoring graduation requirements/transcripts/degrees and setting educational goals etc. as appropriate) for newly admitted UND student-athletes in assigned sports during the academic year and summer terms
  • Responsible for monitoring academic progress, reviewing of academic records, assisting students experiencing academic difficulties (learning, psychological or physical), and assisting with the overall orientation of all student-athletes
  • As assigned, utilizes UND Admissions and NCAA Eligibility Center to monitor and determine admissibility of future UND student-athletes and advise them as to proper preparation coursework or testing
  • Utilize CAi, PeopleSoft, and GradesFirst to monitor academic progress of student-athletes
  • Serve as a liaison for Orientation and Admissions within Athletics. Assist with communication with committed PSAs related to these areas and maintain tracking and communication with all students, student affairs offices, coaches, and staff year round as assigned
  • Assist with the coordination of Athletics specific orientation for all new SA arrivals at UND (fall and spring)
  • Assist with annual Student-Athlete Handbook Development and Production
  • Serve as Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) secondary liaison and UND staff contact for the Summit League SAAC
  • Serve as Student-Athletes for Inclusion & Diversity (SAID) secondary liaison
  • Assist with student-athlete development programming and initiatives
  • Serve on Campus Committees and represent the interests of UND Athletics in meetings with campus constituents as needed
  • Assist with the assignment of SA’s to Foundation Scholarships within guidelines provided
  • Assist in nomination process for Post Graduate scholarships and other NCAA and Conference academic honors for student-athletes
  • Secondary instructor for UNIV101 – University Life student-athlete sections for freshmen student-athletes
  • Assist with creation of the Student-Athlete Support Services Newsletter: The Nest Digest
  • Will assist with the coordination of annual professional speakers (two per year)
  • Responsible for assisting with the completion of accurate and timely academic reports for coaches and administration at the completion of each academic term (fall, spring, summer - grades and eligibility)
  • Assist in completion of APR and other NCAA and UND academic reports using CAi, PeopleSoft, GradesFirst and LSDBi
  • Assist with compiling AD Honor Rolls each semester and coordinate mid-term grade collection
  • Advocate the policies and procedures of the Office of Student-Athlete Support Services to all UND Athletics personnel.
  • Promote compliance with all NCAA rules and Regulation

Required Competencies

  • Must have effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Must have commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules & regulations
  • Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes, including having a valid driver's license

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum one-year experience in college level academic advising or coaching
  • Minimum one-year experience in college level student programming
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Must successfully complete a criminal history background check prior to employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at an NCAA Division I, II, or III athletics department
  • One-year experience as a college level learning specialist
  • Experience with student-athlete based advising or coaching
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or other applicable higher education software systems
  • Experience with developing student academic/learning skills

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification

$33,000+ annually

Work Schedule/Start Date

Full-Time (40 hours/week); 12-month appointment
