In our San Diego lean manufacturing facility, we produce various components that protect sensitive computer equipment from heat and vibration - primarily in the defense and aerospace industries. These components are part of our industry leading SCHROFF product line.You will be accountable for establishing and executing manufacturing strategy, while providing leadership and daily hands-on guidance to our high volume CNC Operations and Assembly teams.Key Job ResponsibilitiesOperations LeadershipAssures a clean and safe working environment for all employees, emphasizing prevention of potential problems and hazardous conditions.Lead and manage all production resources to ensure the achievement of all committed Key Performances Indices (KPI's).Establish manufacturing strategy that supports overall strategic initiatives.Define manufacturing improvement goals and supporting programs to reduce setup, improve productivity and quality, reduce manufacturing cycle time, lower conversion costs, minimize machine downtime and achieve on time delivery.Implement cost reduction programs and re-engineer existing processes to reduce the manufacturing cost of sales.Develop and maintain a highly motivated workforce through training and employee development programs in each of the assigned areas of responsibility to elevate the skill level of employees, as well as provide flexibility in a multi-functional workforce environment.Directly supervises, coaches and develops Production Leads and Operators in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws assuring a safe and productive environment.Lean/ManufacturingActively participate in process Improvement activities via Lean as well as root cause analysis of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and/or Cost abnormalitiesIdentify, design, & Implement process improvements including machine, die, and tooling design & fabrication/acquisition.Evaluate process for automation opportunitiesWork directly with the site Lean Leader as well as other site leadership in implementing lean enterprise principles consistent with SPARK.Develops, writes, and executes capital equipment requests.Manages the execution of the Total Productive Maintenance process, ensuring the workforce follows TPM process, while advising on improvement opportunities.ComplianceAssures a clean and safe working environment for all employees, emphasizing Risk Identification for the prevention of potential problems and hazardous conditions.Maintains compliance with site environmental permits as well as hazardous waste disposal.Education & Experience Bachelor's degree required. Mechanical Engineering or related field of study preferred.5-10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.5-7 years of leadership experience managing direct reports required.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesHands-on experience implementing and evaluating various Lean Manufacturing concepts required.You also have broad based knowledge of progressive manufacturing practices including: inventory management, production scheduling and control, resource planning, budgeting and cost control.Excellent working knowledge of high volume CNC, Press, and Assembly operations.Effective in selecting and developing team members at both a production and professional level.Able to adjust work schedule to accommodate multi-shift operational needs.Good interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and presentation skills.Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word and Power Point)Excellent project management and organizational skills.Blueprint and schematic reading skills a plus, but not mandatory.Mechanical, electrical and drawing interpretation experience preferred.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees.Ability to verbally communicate in Spanish is preferred.Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business circumstances and have the ability to thrive in a constantly changing business environment.Working ConditionsWhile performing the duties of this job, you are exposed to moving mechanical parts. You are occasionally exposed to wet conditions; may need to work at elevation, exposure to fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions. The ability to clearly and comfortably view, interpret and process information via a computer monitor for extended periods of time during normal working hours is required. Periodically exposed to noise levels above 85 dba. Approximately 5% of domestic travel may be required.
