SummaryThis position is an Environmental Technician locates in the Rhinelander District Office, Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction, Rhinelander District Office, Division of Sanitation Facilities Construction, Rhinelander, WI. The position reports to the District Engineer. Learn more about this agency Responsibilities Inspect work of construction contractors to include individual septic systems, well drilling, pump installations, water mains, sewer mains, water and sewer service lines, sewage lagoons or treatment systems, pumping stations, and water storage reservoirs and treatment buildings. Assist Office of Environmental Health staff to obtain NEPA clearance; completion of site evaluations and soil testing/POWTS designs; development of bidding documents and cost estimates; review of bids and management of project finances including quantity tracking; contract management including the completion of construction reports and the review and approval of submittals and payments; and completion of closeout requirements including the development of homeowner packets, water quality reviews, provision of O training, completion of record drawings and drafting of final reports. Conduct soil testing including the designation of test locations, drawing of sketches of test hole locations, logging of soils and depths encountered either in pits or borings, logging the data to calculate percolation rates, and determining the recommended locations and size of the disposal field based on the data and other investigations. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 or equivalent and above): Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated Specialized Experience:GS-04: Six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience. GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. GS-06: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level. GS-07: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of Specialized Experience: GS-4: Basic experience on construction crew in the areas of utility construction, drafting, surveying and the construction inspection process. Knowledge of computer systems and programs, i.e., word processors, database systems and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of and practical usage of GPS systems to determine location and to verify location in relation to blueprints. Exposure to engineering drafting systems and their usage.
