The St. Cloud VA Health Care System seeks a full time Primary Care & Specialty Medicine Service Line Director (MD/DO).
The Primary Care & Specialty Medicine Service Line Director is an expert Physician (MD/DO) who executes responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to the management of programs and complex patient care. S/he functions as an administrator, educator, and consultant with a wide range of experience demonstrating leadership and performance that is broad enough to improve care for large groups of Veterans through influencing policies and decisions at the health care system level and beyond.
Some duties include but are not limited to the following:
Provides executive input in the strategic planning, budget, mission, operational planning, and policy development for local and network efforts.
Provides guidance, reviews and edits materials, programs, and projects produced by assigned staff members.
Demonstrates substantial and continuous responsibility for directing and managing an integrated program
Provides consultation to health care system staff and the greater community in areas of expertise.
Is active in clinical and environmental rounds in order to evaluate health care system care delivery.
Identifies opportunities for program improvement and effectiveness and assesses the therapeutic milieu and safety in clinical areas.
Assumes a leadership role in resolving highly complex ethical issues that have an impact on the health care system and/or the Veteran within the organization and/or the community.
Provides leadership in the development of policies and strategies that support the health care system to successfully manage bioethical issues and protect patient and family rights.
Demonstrates a commitment to EEO principles and applies EEO principles in all decisions.
Provides leadership in allocating and managing resources of a complex program/service based on the Mission, Vision, and Values of the health care system (local, VISN, and VHA).
Ensures staff compliance with infection prevention and patient safety practices.
Provides leadership for and demonstrates safe work practices in compliance with safety rules and regulations.
Implements appropriate disciplinary actions when infractions are committed against safe work practices.
Collaborates in the establishment of and supports a system for recognition of accomplishments and achievements by employees.
Participates in the development of education programs and staff development models to facilitate career progression and to increase productivity and performance.
Guides supervisory staff in the completion of timely and accurate human resource actions.
Leads staff in the development of strategic planning within his/her area of responsibility and throughout the organization.
Assures lines of communication are open to all employees under his/her area of responsibility.
Fosters a climate for practice that enhances job satisfaction through mutual responsibility for productivity and quality improvement.
Actively supports Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation concepts.
Assumes leadership within the health care community through publication, membership on task forces, internal and external committees, consulting, and development of media or scientific inquiry.
Maintains and encourages effective labor management partnerships and participates in negotiation of agreements.
Identifies outcomes that can be improved and/or leads the performance improvement process to improve/sustain clinical and administrative outcomes.
Provides leadership in research or research utilization in the areas of nursing, health, and/or management systems.
Identifies and establishes processes to support evidence-based clinical and administrative practice, including developing, conducting, and evaluating research activities.
Establishes systems to present and share research activities through unit-based, service/program-wide, and/or system-wide activities.
Collaborates in research initiatives to improve patient outcomes and the care delivery system.
Assumes a leadership role in fostering evidence-based clinical nursing practice promoting improved patient outcomes.
Work Schedule: Administrative Days 8:00am-4:30pm
Recruitment/Relocation Incentive authorized. Amount to be determined at time of hire.
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA Policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Two years management/supervisory experience preferred
Board Certified/Board Eligible Physician
