ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides technical expertise and professional experience in working across all Global Business Units (GBUs) & Central Engineering Operations to establish & implement the functional safety strategy for the organization including roadmap for standards-achievement & capability and maturity in people, processes, tools, etc.
Works cross-GBU & cross-functionally to provide residual risk tolerance evaluation/recommendation/decision-making process & facilitate
Works closely with the engineering teams in a Matrix organization to ensure Functional Safety work products are developed and maintained for safety critical systems & are consistent among different teams.
Attends and participates in safety-critical design reviews as the subject matter expert.
Stays at the forefront of industry development in terms of Functional Safety standards as well as validation tools and methods, especially relating to powersports, electrification, and ADAS/Autonomous applications.
Leads process improvements to align with Functional Safety standards; engages cross-functional technical teams to ensure improvements are developed for effectivity while maximizing speed and agility; trains technical teams on process utilization and documentation standards.
Decomposes Functional Safety goals, creates Functional Safety requirements, tracks the implementation and validation of Functional Safety requirements to ensure overall system safety requirements are met and documented in a safety case.
Approves the system safety controls architecture and oversees development of controls and software design mitigation strategies to satisfy the Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA) and Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
Coordinates, reviews, interprets, and communicates Functional Safety assessments completed by 3rd party affiliates.

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

Required - Bachelors degree in Electrical, Automotive, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering
8+ years of experience in electrical/software systems architecture design/development
2+ years of experience in Functional Safety for automotive applications CFSP or CFSE preferred
Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and vehicle controls functions - automotive, motorcycle, off-road, industrial, other
Well versed in safety standards (frameworks and work products) related to development of electrical/software systems (eg IEC-61508, ISO-26262, ISO/PAS 21448, ISO 13849)
Technical in nature
Experience conducting Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA), Design Failure Mode Effects Analysis (DFMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
Ability to effectively communicate, influence, and work cross functionally at all levels of an organization
Forward-looking; challenges the status quo
Strong data mining and data analysis skillset
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to write clear and precise technical reports and presentations
Ability to read and understand industry standards and technical documentation
