Director of Nursing

Full-Time; Day Shift

Primrose Retirement Community, Duluth, MN is looking for a Registered Nurse to lead our assisted living care team. Primrose Retirement Communities was founded in 1989 based on the premise that a retirement community must reward its residents with value, comfort, security, and convenience. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

The Director of Nursing assumes responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the Primrose community. In collaboration with the community Executive Director, allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable each resident to attain or maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate resident care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the community.

The Director of Nursing is directly responsible to the Executive Director at the community level for the overall coordination and execution of nursing services and monitoring and evaluating the outcomes of nursing care. The Director of Nursing is indirectly responsible to their Regional Nurse Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Ensures delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate services and staff coverage in the community. Participates in the recruitment and hiring of nursing personnel.
  2. Ensures timely completion of resident assessments and service plans at pre-admission, admission, 30 days, annually and with change of condition or at intervals specified by State regulations.
  3. Ensures that nursing practice in the community reflects skill in resident assessment, critical thinking and nursing interventions.
  4. Evaluates whether the community can meet each resident's clinical needs, which includes a potential new admission to the facility, a current resident, or the transfer of a resident from the community.
  5. Develops and implements an organized nursing system for the delivery of care and services by coordinating nursing services with other services and departments; i.e. maintenance, pharmacy, dietary, housekeeping, laundry, activities, etc.
  6. Participates actively in the Primrose community's quality improvement process, including regular attendance at, and reporting to the Quality Committee. Participates in ongoing facility efforts to improve the overall quality of the nursing care, including efforts to evaluate and address the causes of various care-related problems and deficiencies.
  7. Promotes, establishes, and maintains customer relationships with resident, families, staff, community and other professionals. Markets the community through tours and collaboration with special events, health fairs, and speaking engagements with local civic groups.
  8. Knowledgeable of state and other applicable regulations and demonstrates ability to implement and maintain compliance with these regulations governing the community, resident care, and any applicable reimbursement.
  9. Communicates and interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff, and monitors staff practices and implementation. Evaluates the work performance of all nursing personnel and responsible for any disciplinary actions of nursing personnel.
  10. Monitors nursing staff for compliance with OSHA mandates and Primrose policies on workplace safety.
  11. Implements and monitors the infection prevention practices designed to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment to prevent the devilment and transmission of disease and infection.
  12. Oversees and supervises the development and delivery of orientation and in service education to equip nursing staff with sufficient knowledge and skills to provide compassionate, quality care and respect for resident rights according to regulations.
  13. Responsible for the appropriate delegation of all licensed and non-licensed nursing staff as outlined by the State Board of Nursing and specific State regulations.
  14. Proactively develops positive employee relations, incentives, and recognition programs. Promotes teamwork, mutual respect, and effective communication.
  15. Monitors care for residents receiving services through third party providers, assuring documentation requirements are met.
  16. Maintains confidentiality within the workplace with all written and verbal communications pertaining to residents, staff, and community operations.
  17. If providing care in a Primrose Memory Care community, actively engages and assists in ensuring person-centered approaches with programming and behavioral expressions are carried out per Primrose Memory Care Program.



KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS

Knowledge of current state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a assisted living setting. Has strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities. Demonstrates leadership skills in principles of team building, motivating others, and conflict management/resolution. Knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease, other dementias and related memory impairments is preferred. Basic knowledge of computer software and programs required, minimum working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word.

Able to work primarily day hours with occasional varying hours. Able to share with other nurses, "call" time regarding resident care needs.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Current, active registered nursing license in the state the community is located in. Maintain CPR and First Aid Certification per state regulations. Meet annual continuing education hours required for nursing license if applicable. Experience in a long term care or assisted living environment is preferred.
