The Airport Firefighter serves as a team member to carry out fire suppression and rescue, medical emergency response, fire prevention and hazardous material emergency response activities, this includes fires, or the potential of fires, involving aircraft and operational processes located at Hector International Airport.  The Airport Firefighter also performs various maintenance activities on fire equipment and fire station facility and is responsible for the care and safe operation of department equipment of a high monetary value.  This position is an operational firefighter position and will require the incumbent to crew an Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) apparatus and participate in hot zone activities during emergency response operations.  Work performed can be considerably hazardous and requires the airport firefighter to follow the direction of supervisors and to draw upon previous training and/or experience to make quick judgments in extremely volatile situations.  The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to austere conditions including elevated temperatures, extreme cold, highly stressful situations, and chaotic environments.  The Airport Firefighter will assist airport operations personnel in providing Airport Operations Area (AOA) maintenance activities to ensure effective, efficient and safe operation of the airport, according to federal regulations under the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements.  This position is subject to emergency call-back 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.  Must have a High school diploma or GED, as well as, hold current certifications in Firefighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations. Emergency Medical Responder and C.P.R. required within 12 months of employment date. Completion of FEMA Courses ICS 100, 200, 700 & 800 required within 90 days of employment date.  Starting salary range will begin at $4,283.00/mo, DOE, plus benefits.
