Job Posting
Postdoctoral positions are available in the Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials at North Dakota State University in the area of the preparation and characterization of polymeric materials designed for reduced adhesion of marine organisms and ice. Duties will include preparation of coating materials, some synthesis of polymers and copolymers, characterization of surfaces using multiple analytical methods, preparation of reports and manuscripts for publication, and presentation of research at national and international meetings. A PhD. In Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Coatings and Polymeric Materials, Polymer Science or related field is required. Also required are good communication skills as demonstrated by record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences. Preferred qualifications include: Preparation and characterization of organic and/or polymeric coatings; Characterization of polymer surfaces using atomic force microscopy, nanoIR, contact angle measurements and contact mechanics; Synthesis of polymers, block copolymers, siloxanes, amphiphilic polymers; Understanding of interactions of biological organisms with polymer surfaces; Experience with studies of adhesion to material surfaces (previous work with ice or biofoulants is an asset); Preparation and characterization of materials designed for marine antifouling and/or reduced ice adhesion; One or more years of postdoctoral experience.

Positions will be initially for one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funds. Applications should include a cover letter summarizing relevant experience and a complete CV including the names and contact information of at least three references. Screening of applications will begin October 15, 2020, and continue until the positions are filled. For further information and to apply visit: jobs.ndsu.edu.
