Job Responsibilities

Provides spiritual/pastoral care and spiritual ministries programming for residents, resident's family members and employees. Provides spiritual care including individual pastoral care for all residents and resident's family members to address resident's spiritual needs. Helps ensure appropriate worship and Bible study opportunities are available to all residents. Uses personalized approach and ensures sacramental ministries. Standing member of and participates in The GSS Way committee. Helps ensure development of and participates in the spiritual life and programming. Works with community clergy. Invites and encourages employees to participate in spiritual life of the location, and encourages and empowers them in their providing spiritual care. Is available to staff for pastoral care as needed and refers to appropriate resources. Documents visits and care provided to residents. Works collaboratively with others in ensuring the meeting of resident's spiritual needs.

This position would require hours worked every Sunday to provide worship service to residents.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited School of Theology with the Association of Theological Schools (seminary or equivalent) with a Master of Divinity or a Master of Theology degree. Permission required from Vice President of Mission Integration if this qualification is not met. Must provide written verification of ordination, licensed or commissioned status prior to being hired. Must be an active member in good standing of a Christian denomination per "A Description of Being Christian in the Lutheran Tradition". Completion of two units of Clinical Pastoral Education or being certified or credentialed as a chaplain, along with being endorsed or affirmed for this ministry by denomination is preferred. Previous and extensive pastoral experience preferred.

Awareness and comfort with the aging process, grief and loss and death. Ability to support and enhance the spiritual well-being of locations residents and employees. Ecumenical outlook. Has a deep sense of God's love for themselves and others, and the ability to appropriately share God's love in Christ with others and to enable others to do so as well. Must be able to work independently and cooperatively with others. Effective written and oral communication skills. General computer skills.

Knowledge of basic religious and spiritual needs of others, especially those in your location. Knowledge of and respect for major belief systems, both Christian and non-Christian.
