Overview

The Nutrition Services Manager plans, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Nutrition Services Department. Assures high quality food and services are provided to customers including patients, hospital employees, and visitors. Establishes policies and procedures, budgets, performance improvement programs, nutrition care standards. Provides administrative direction for: menu formation; food preparation; distribution and service; sanitation standards; safety practices; work standards; staffing patterns and staff development. Provides consultant dietitian services to community agencies and outpatient nutrition care services.

Responsibilities

  • Develops standards of performance. Determines areas of responsibility and accountability. Delegates' authority to the various supervisors and staff.
  • Interviews, hires, and terminates personnel. Evaluates the appropriateness and effectiveness of orientation, training and education activities. Provides annual and mid-year reviews of employees.
  • Responsible for initiating, planning and establishing policies for the departments. Designs and implements Quality Management Program for department.
  • Designs and controls department budget.
  • Inspects work, storage, and servicing areas to assure local, State, Federal, and TJC regulations are met.
  • Maintains and updates kiitchen menus in Nutrition software program: CBORD
  • Manages all nutritional aspects of patient care including nutritional screening assessments, charting, interviews, and advises physicians on clinical efficacy of nutrition orders.
  • Assesses, evaluates, plans, and implements nutrition care plans of patients in the following age groups: infancy, childhood, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. This care is delivered in accordance with established standards of care.
  • Reviews department performance and institutes changes in techniques or procedures to improve services, simplify work flow, assure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote more efficient operation.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, conferences and professional affiliations. Develops a personal plan for continuing education based on needs assessment.
  • Provides dietetic consulting services to other facilities.
  • Implements JRMC Corporate Compliance Plan into department policies, training, and education and monitoring activities.
  • Provides dietitian services to Hospice, Home Health, Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehab Departments.
  • Serves on interdisciplinary teams as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications

Bachelors or advanced degree from an accredited institution with a Major in Food, Nutrition and/or Dietetics. Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration required. Current license from the North Dakota Board of Dietetic Practice.

Completion of internship approved by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Experience in health care management and three to five years of hospital experience beneficial.
