Position Description & Details:

A full-time postdoctoral research fellow position is available at the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University (NDSU), Fargo. The successful candidate will work closely with the NDSU Oat breeding program and the USDA-ARS Fargo Genotyping Laboratory and should have experience in plant breeding techniques, crossing in oats, molecular mapping, molecular genotyping, physical mapping, QTL analysis, association mapping, breeding/marker assisted selection, data analysis. The candidate will develop bi- and multi-parent mapping populations in oat to investigate the molecular and genetic mechanism of key economic traits of oat particularly Beta glucan inheritance, yield and yield component traits, and plant resistance to stem and crown rust. The candidate will also perform association mapping studies with bi-parental and breeding populations currently under field evaluation. The fellow will be active in generating, collecting, and analyzing high-throughput genotyping and phenotyping data in the laboratory, greenhouse, and field trials. The position is for two years with possibility of extension subject to performance and funding availability.

Advertised Salary: $42,000

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A PhD in genetics, plant sciences, molecular biology, plant pathology or related fields is required.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in statistical analysis programming language (R, python) is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Expertise with oat crossing and phenotyping.
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
