Position Information

Responsible for supporting and enhancing programming related to Bismarck State College's (BSC) Polytechnic mission, including student experiential learning, industry and educational partner outreach, and student success programming.

Is directly accountable and responsible to the Polytechnic Program Outreach Director.

Position Description & Details

Industry Outreach - 35%
  1. Collaborates with program industry representatives and program students in discovering experiential learning opportunities.
  2. Provides guidance to students in establishing experiential learning opportunities.
  3. Works with department staff in recruiting students for experiential learning opportunities and related career and placement programs.
  4. Monitors experiential learning experiences for students by maintaining ongoing contact, performing reviews of positions, reviewing employer and student evaluations, and conducting employer site visits.
  5. Assist in the marketing and promotion of BSC experiential learning opportunities to employers.
  6. Reviews, assists, and provides counsel to employers in maintaining experiential learning job descriptions, work plans, and employment expectations
  7. Assist departments in the collection and processing of information used to modify programs and curriculum through Advisory Committee engagement.

Educational Partnerships and Outreach - 30%
  1. Monitors and advances program level educational transfer agreements.
  2. Investigates and develops projects to further expand and enhance educational pathways with K-12 and postsecondary institutions.
  3. Coordinate and attend educational and outreach events (action summits, career fairs, symposiums, conferences, etc.)
  4. Serve as a liaison to assigned academic division to support student, faculty, and others with their programmatic, student support or polytechnic questions.

Student Engagement and Retention - 25%
  1. Assists and serve as a resource with new student questions, registration and orientation.
  2. Advise/Coach students and assist with implementation of enrollment management and retention initiatives.
  3. Assists with resumes, cover letters, interview skills, and job search techniques.
  4. Promotes and markets experiential learning opportunities to students for industry placement.
  5. Coordinate and implement experiential learning curriculum and student learning activities including work reflections and immersion experiences.
  6. Schedule, meet, and facilitate scheduled group instructional and advising sessions for students.

General - 10%
  1. Prepares and delivers workshops on various employment and job search topics, providing information to students, employers, and community agencies to promote awareness around programs.
  2. Ensures program specific website, print, social media and all other communication messages are up-to-date and coordinates any changes with the appropriate personnel across BSC.
  3. Supports innovation, creativity and ideas to improve/enhance processes, functions, etc. for the program(s) and as a whole for the college.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

This position is generally not aligned for telecommuting work structures.

Status: Full-time (100%), Exempt

Required Competencies

  • Appropriate bachelor's degree with three years of progressive experience in higher education, career counseling, recruiting, and/or a business setting, or related associate degree and agreement to complete a bachelor's degree in a specified period of time.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of people.
  • Must have the ability to speak well and present a good public appearance.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently and in collaboration with other to carry out associated duties.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to summarize and communicate relevant results of activities.
  • Proficient in computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Access, Outlook), and excellent keyboarding skills.
  • Proficient working with multiple forms of social media including Facebook and Twitter.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
  • Travel is required and must have a valid driver's license.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in public speaking or presentations.
  • Extensive experience in a comparable position (business, management, marketing or communications).
  • Higher education experience with a community college and polytechnic philosophy.
