Job Details

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, shampooing, and renewing floor finishes.
  • Washing windows, blinds, mirrors, walls, doors and woodwork.
  • Cleaning and dusting furniture, exhibit cases, fixtures, appliances, and related furnishings.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting rest room in public and/or residential areas.
  • Maintaining a continuous supply of paper in all dispensers.
  • Collecting and picking up waste and recyclable materials, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • May perform power washing, leaf removal, moving snow and may be required to operate a snow blower.
  • Performs minor repairs to equipment.
  • Responsible for reporting minor and major maintenance and equipment issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Removal of snow from sidewalks, cleaning gutters, drains spouts, and grounds outside.
  • Moving and setting up furniture and equipment for events or departments.
  • Locking and unlocking doors main building doors as required.
  • Possible State Fleet vehicle use.
  • Assist in training new employees on the day-to-day operation of the assigned area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Assist Supervisor with the following:

Instruct on proper and safe practices for all cleaning equipment, to include floor scrubbers, buffers, and vacuum cleaners. Complete the BST Employee Checklist ensuring all areas are initialed. Assist with harassment training and other web-based employment requirements. Order uniforms and keys as needed for new staff. Responsible for entering labor hours in our computerized program, FAMIS. Will submit supply requests and work orders. Responsible for submitting timely leave requests to management. Responsible for checking and reading University email account on a regular basis. Must follow University policies and procedures. Responsible for University keys. May be required to use a University issued cell phone. May be responsible in assisting supervising students.

Organize cleaning schedules and assign work assignments. Ensure staff uses correct and safe procedures to complete duties. Write evaluations, perform building inspections to evaluate performance, approve or disapprove staff request for leave in absence of supervisor. Keep records of leave used by staff and keep documentation on staff and provide disciplinary measures, as needed. Ensure staff follow university and departmental policies and procedures. Verify time cards for accuracy and enter into the FAMIS software in absence of supervisor. Instruct and train employees in the proper methods and equipment to be used in the performance of their work. Inspect the work of subordinates to ensure proper standards are maintained.

Required Competencies

  • Must be able to understand, speak, read and write English well enough to perform the functions of the position; including reading and communicating in regards to work orders, safety instructions and chemical labels.

Minimum Requirements

  • A high school degree or GED equivalent
  • Two years custodial experience OR one year supervisory experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • Successful completion of criminal history background check

  • Basic Microsoft Office computer experience
  • Experience with FAMIS
  • Experience with UND campus
